I'm just checking to make sure we all got the same CHINTZY zip lock bag "case." Every other vehicle I've owned came with something better. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the truck. Just checking.....

That's exactly how mine came

The accord I traded in came with a real nice sleeve for the owners manual and service booklet

Yep that's what I got and have been searching for something better. Not a big deal but kind of a finishing touch I appreciate in a new vehicle. I ended up picking up a $10 pouch at Best Buy that was designed for a tablet, a little bit big but for now it will do.

I'm suprised they even put them in print any more. I would put it on a 16gb thumb drive in a protected pdf file to play on the infotainment system or computer of coice, and allow space for other media loading to allow/nudge tech challeged folk to learn how these new fangled gadgets are a more efficient way of life.

I am far from tech-challenged, but that is a bad idea. These "gadgets" are far from efficient when you are trying to reference info while out on the road (or off). Trucks are work vehicles, often away from "computer of choice" or otherwise. As for the infotainment system, it is probably the most referenced item in a manual these days, not to mention potentially needing to replace a fuse that powers it.

My fully-loaded Camaro SS came with the chintzy bag as well. I would not have minded if they had added a few more dollars to the cost of the car for a decent pouch/holder.

For a buck and a half or so they could have put them into a nice stamped and welded vinyl cover. Maybe they didn't want to buy anything from china. LOL.

Seriously, for this much money to skimp here is silly. It's not like they are building a million vehicles a year or something. Sheesh!

I thought I just got short changed. Even my $23K subaru economy car came with a vinyl owner book cover. <shrug>

It all adds up, $3 a car over a few models years, say a million cars is quite a bit of savings!

Not sure why anyone would care about this at all. I read the owners manual cover to cover in PDF form on the PC before I ever buy a car, that way I'm familiar with all the systems before I buy it. I took the paper owners manual out of my cruze the first day I owned it, and plan to do the same when/if I buy a Colorado. That book takes up space, I would rather use for something actually useful.

Oh and those of you with smart phones, you can just download the PDF for offline use and store it on your phone.

What a travesty. How dare they cheapen up on this valuable booklet you will pull out to look at 100's of times over the life of your ride. As for me I read through it once when I got the vehicle and may look at it on very rare occasions when there is something that stumps me. I've had the imitation naugaboo covers and I don't remember them making the vehicles run any better. And as someone else said it's all on the phone app or web. Both of which are much more accessible to most folks then a leather bound booklet in the glovebox.

I'm with RatRacer on this. Just put a PDF in the infotainment system. Plenty of real-estate on the screen for a Manual button, and search feature. For those tech challenged, stop by your dealer and order one. Make the salesman walk the buyer through how to access it, and show them the new features they might not know about. Money saved by GM for not printing millions, and the opportunity to sell some OnStar subscriptions. "Here sir/maam, let me walk you through the steps to locate your issue, tell you the model number of the bulb, etc...". Let me use the glovebox/console for storing items I use regularly.

That would work just awesome when you have a dead battery and can't access any information.....

I have bought a new car every other year since 1977 and never got one from the dealer - was always a factory one - in the glovebox. Pretty much every brand of car.
<shrug>

^^ This.
A blown fuse in BFE or some weird thing - i want the manual. Sure, they're printed on the fuse box cover, but maybe it's something else.

I also use them to enter DIY service. My cars never go back to the dealer unless it's a warranty claim or a blown engine or trans. Pretty much everything else is DIY.

Got the bag with this one. On all other cars since 1983 got a soft vinyl cover with all
manuals and warranty info inside along with dealer business cards. None of them cost as much as the Colorado, even adjusting for inflation. Guess they put the savings into QC.

So...just for fun...
First new car, 1977 Subaru DL Coupe
1980 VW Dasher Diesel
1983 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
1984 Ford Escort Diesel
1986 Isuzu Trooper II
1992 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
1993 Nissan Quest
2000 Subaru Forester

2004 Mercedes C240
2005 Volvo V50 T5
2010 Mercedes GLK
2013 Mercedes C250 Coupe
2013 Subaru Crosstrek
2015 Chevy Colorado

There were at least twice that many used cars in between, a Buick, two Porsches - 911 and 914, two Beetles - new style and old, another Volvo, an Audi, four other Mercedes Benzes - a couple of diesels and a couple of gassers, a BMW 325 'vert, four ford trucks and vans a mustang and Taurus, a Dodge Conversion Van, two Chevy pickups - one Duramax CC, a Toyota Camry, two Jeep Wranglers, and probly a couple of more that have slipped my mind. I'm happy to share my experience with automobiles of which I have plenty. LOL.

Oh, and there's at least a dozen-plus motorcycles and a handful of boats.
The wife says I need intervention. :clueless

Most of my vehicles have had some sort of vinyl case for the owner's manual, but I do remember one with a heavy paper folder, didn't last real well. Looked nice new. I can't remember all of the owner's manuals and how the cases were designed for each, but I have had a few in my lifetime.

1978 Ford LTDII (Used)
1984 Chevy Celebrity - just missed by a year on being eligible for Lemon Law buyback.
1984 Ford Escort - wife's before we married
1985 S-10 Blaser - one of my favorites.
1986 Chevy Celebrity - wife's
1990 GMC Safari
1992 Honda Accord - wife's
1995 Chevy C1500
1998 Honda Accord - wife's
2001 CHevy Tahoe
2003 Mazda Miata - wife's
2005 Buick LaCrosse - wife's
2009 Jeep Wrangler
2011 Chevy Camaro - wife's
2015 GMC Canyon - on order.

Also purchased used two Ford Escorts, a Ford Tempo, and a Dodge Omni for the kids.

Biggest reason for the case is to also keep important papers like insurance card in a place I can find.

When you buy a new KTM motorcycle you get a nice briefcase, with tools, parts, manuals, exploded parts diagrams, some tuning parts, and best of all, a combo tool beer bottle opener! Those Austrians show some class.

Got a delta 88 once that came with a "Special Music collection" CD, never did listen to it,( probably never read the manual either).
AND....... Recently got a weed whacker with a leaflet printed in 8 languages!

How much more boring can we let this thread get?
