Outer Armrest Cover

I recently bought a 2015 Colorado WT with cloth seats. One thing I have noticed that was different than the LT I test drove is the armrest. The armrest in the LT was soft and the WT is hard plastic and is very uncomfortable on my elbow.

Has anyone ever changed this piece out?

I think I can order a cover from Online Catalog | GM Wholesale Parts

I have not made the switch but would love to. If you are able to order the cover, let the rest of us know...

I'm thinking of changing the Z71 grey arm rest with the Canyon SLT black leather with white stitching arm rest. It would match the leather in the seats and the white stitching on the Z71. I just have to see if one will fit. Maybe I will stop by a GMC dealer and see them side by side or find the a diagram. The first gen twins consoles were identical.

Edit: I cannot get the images to link. What image hosting site do you recommend?

I like the black a lot more than the grey and it is much more comfortable on my elbow

Did you switch the whole lid or just the top outer cover #2 on the diagram? It looks like you have the back of the console off to switch the lid? Thanks

Just ordered the outer cover...and yes you have to remove the back piece to access the assembly. once you get that piece off, you take the washers off each end of the pin, slide the pin out, then pull the hinge legs out of thier hole. Once you do that, the whole armrest will come off. Now unscrew the outer cover from the inner....2 screws in the back and then take the button/latch off the front...they asked for my VIN so they could verify fit but after I explained to them what I wanted to do, they said they needed a VIN from a LT so they could get the correct part number. The WT outer cover and the LT outer cover have different part numbers

What do you mean, " they asked for my Vin ". Can't you just order the part from a parts department at a dealership?

So what you are telling me is I can't just pop some clips and remove the top. I have to take it off first? Too bad you didn't take any photos. Can you take a pic of the inside of the one you removed? Thanks. I just don't want to break anything swapping these parts out.

I went to the dealership to order but they were $40 higher than what I could get online. I will take some pics tomorrow of my old cover

Do you have the exact part number? That site is confusing.

There are 4 screws to take out to separate the outer and inner cover. 2 in the front where the latch goes and 2 in the back. If you could access those back screws while it is still attached to the console, you could just unscrew and swap the cover. Unfortunately, you can't so that is why you have to take it off. Once you take all the screws out, go to the front and pry the covers apart. It is held on by the 6 clips on the side and one clip in the middle.

Does the rear section of the console just pop off?

Yes. On the back of the console at the bottom where it meets the carpet, just pry your fingers up underneath and pull. It will pop off as the plastic clips come out of their slots

This is interesting and something I need but at the beginning of this thread I thought that you were talking about the arm rest on the door, that the one that I think is uncomfortable. I`d like to find something to enhance that. it is also plastic and has somewhat extra firm cushion.

That piece is hard and uncomfortable too but, only when my knee rests on it and from my research, they don't offer it in a different material other than Carbon Fiber.

I have seen people wrap it in different types of material though.

OK, I ordered the part mentioned above and it is black and it would fit to replace the OEM grey one on my Z71, but it is decidedly not padded in any form or fashion. It is just as hard and unforgiving as the original, just a different color. I guess I need to take a look at the padded leather one from a Canyon.
