What is everyone's best guess on the release of details on the 18 and the availability?
I've been seeing on here that some people are speculating that since the 17 was a "late" release, an 18 might be as early as late summer. Could that be true?
I'm about 6 to 12 months out on buying and want to see what changes they make on the 18 before I decide to buy an 18 or grab a 17 on sale at the last minute. I've read on some other sites that the grill/headlights might be changed, and added colors.
Yeah. . I;m guessing that GM will want a *fresh* look to the Twins for 2018 since Ford is jumping back into the mid sized market.
How extensive the changes will be? I'm guessing new front sheet metal and the same in back with headlights and tail lights changed.. That is the usual. And maybe some new interior trim, maybe seating design, etc. Enough to turn a head or two. But this truck is too new to make major changes. Not like it will be a * whole new truck *
I'm hoping they'll do something similar to the headlights on the newest Camaro. Those look so mean I expect to get locked in my school locker every time one drives by.
That looks pretty good to me. IMO it looks more aggressive than the current style. Either way, I'm in no hurry to give up mine as mine is set up exactly how I want it.
Historically GM releases info on next year's models around July, you can order around August, and the first people start receiving them around September-October.
Obviously the 2017 MY did not abide by this pattern and was a significantly late release not really hitting the ground until the following January. I guess because of the impending release of the Denali, the ZR2, and the new V6 powertrain.
I too am eagerly awaiting and ready to order a 2018 MY. I just want a handful of options added to the Denali trim (8 speed on the diesel and sunroof are the must haves) and I'll be really happy I waited it out.
With the ZR2 and Denali just coming out I don't expect any changes for 2018. Might not see anything for 2019 either. Since the US Colorado is related to the global Colorado and shares some parts, their product cycles are probably aligned. The global Colorado was just refreshed last year so it could be another 2-4 years before we see something new.
I would actually have to agree with you on 2018. I do think 2019 or 2020 would be target dates. At that point, will have a better picture of the Ranger & Wrangler products, perhaps Toyota will actually re-design the Taco, Nissan the Frontier.
I know people like to bash the General, but if you look at what GM has done from a marketing standpoint on these trucks, they have really done a nice job of releases:
2015: Totally turn the market on it's head by jumping back into mid-size market with arguably a very good product offering.
2016: As Toyota offers another cosmetic update to the Taco with some new powertrains, introduces a diesel mid-size truck for first time in US.
2017: Introduce a Denali and a ZR2 trim, targeting the luxury and offroad customers. Sure, the Denali leaves a lot to be desired, but most people are really saying the ZR2 is a game changer for a stock off road mid-size truck. Also, new V6 and 8 speed transmission, new offerings at the mid-size level.
I see the General doing things with these trucks that keep them at the top of the game for mass market mid-size trucks, with something to "steal the thunder" from the competitors' introductions.
Maybe I am wrong, and GM has just blindly stumbled into what I see as marketing prowess, but if so, it is better to be lucky than good I guess holds some water.

It says 5/25/17 for MY '18 acceptance of orders.
It says 7/24/17 for MY '18 Production Startup.
I assume they will start hitting customers in mid August 2017.
This appears to be a 9 month spread from start up of MY '17 production till start up of MY '18 production. I guess it's better than a full 12 months.
I sat in a new Canyon Denali today which is what I'll order. It almost hurt to crawl back in to my '09 with 171K miles that smells like an old locker room. 7 more months to go...

Full grown sweaty men actually, avid mountain biker here.
Every summer that I have owned the truck I remove the seats on a 100 degree TX day and I power wash them. Since they are nothing but metal/ foam/ cloth there is nothing to damage and they dry bone dry within 2-3 hours. It gets rid of all the kid's stains and the sweaty smell. It's also a great time to complete vacuum the interior.
I think this summer, my last summer with the truck, I'm going to buy some cloth interior spray paint and freshen up the color on the seats a bit. Getting ready to sell it.
For those posters that are forecasting an 8-speed for the diesel for 2018, what was the source of your information? I'm curious because I would certainly prefer an 8-speed and will delay my purchase if it's true. But I have read on some forums that the 8-speed would be unlikely next year because of the CPVA (Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber). Apparently this is not a minor piece of engineering (I don't really know, I'm just repeating what I've read). Does the 8-speed currently have CPVA?
As good as today's diesels are, they are rougher and noisier than gas engines. I can't see GM giving up a feature that improves NVH for the existing diesel. Unless of course the new 8-speed has CPVA.

With the ZR2 just about hitting the market it seems unlikely a major change for '18. The Holden Colorado looks more car like/Ridgelime look, which may work overseas but personally I do not like the style, not an off-road 4x4 look at all.
I looked at the 17 Denali and immediately turned in my 2015 Canyon SLT and ordered a new Denali , gas, 4x4 and the eight speed transmission. Ordered on Valentine's Day and now the wait begins, I will try to track it through the build process as I was able to do with my 2015. Temp was 15 degrees this morn...could have used the heated steering wheel this AM.
EDIT: To expand on my answer, the Sierra with Denali package does not have pushbutton start, I don't see the mid-size trucks getting this at the same time or before the FS trucks do.
