Trailboss Bed Cover Options/Modifications?

Hey everyone,

So I own a 2016 Colorado Trailboss Duramax.
I'm wondering if anyone else with a Trailboss edition did anything special to cover the bed.. the Roll bar i've noticed it wrapped into the bed rails.. So it seems as if a "standard bed cover" would not be able to work being the Roll bar is in the way.. any options/modifications done to allow you to cover the back?

I've seen one that works. But it's Velcro. So I didn't buy it since obviously you can't lock it.

GM makes a cover (well GM doesnt make it but they sell it as an accessory) that fits the sport bar trucks.

There is also a few threads where some members have cut the sport bar rear bracket to fit certain covers or notched the cover mounts.

I don't mind if its velcro.. I'm just worried about when I go away and need to pack the back out with luggage, I just don't want water getting inside and ruining things.

Really? Great! Thanks, I'll have to give the dealer a call!

I just notched mine. There is a thread in the forum that details the process. I do have to go back and nibble a bit more off my rails when I can get more than negative free time to do so.

I have the GM Accessory cover on my 16 Trailboss. Part of the deal with the truck. Took the dealer 11 days to get it installed with flying a "GM Accessory Specialist" out to assist....it still leaks and is a PITA to use. When I load the bed for trips I just keep anything I need dry in the center of the bed cause water just drips in around the sports bar and stays to the outside of the bed.

Holy Crap. Have they ever installed truck accessories before? The one on my truck is the first one I've ever done, needed to be modded to fit around the sport bar, and I still got it done in the matter of a couple of hours. These things aren't that hard to install. You can get some black silicone sealant to seal up around the sport bar if you feel brave enough to mess with the stuff and not make a mess out of it to fix the water intrusion.

I don't think they could change a taillight bulb. I have since changed to a different servicing dealer with not much better service. I continually have to bring the truck back for the same things over and over again. Not major mechanicals, just stupid annoyances. Eventually I either give up cause I don't have time to sit at the dealer and live with the issue or fix it myself.

That's unfortunate. My dealer worked extensively with me when I was modding my truck, and did an amazing job with the parts of the job that I needed their help with. It's unfortunate that you live way far away from me, or I'd point you to their service center.

I'll tell you on Mon how that GM accessory soft cover fits with the bar. It will be installed by the dealership. I'm not too concerned about water intrusion or theft, as I just need it to keep the snow/leaves out. Just wonder if it will ventilate enough to evaporate whatever little leakage DOES occur, so as not to promote rust.

I'm a bit late to the part. I just picked up my '16 Trail Boss less than 2 months ago and had the soft folding tonneau cover installed a week later. It works with the light bar (obviously) but not perfectly, it requires a little angling to get the tonneau's support bars past the light bar but it's nothing complicated. Mine doesn't leak, but it looks like when the dealer was fitting it with the weather seal they had to shift the positioning of the light bar during installation (I only noticed because they left a couple of the torx screws loose - I tightened them myself once I noticed). As somebody mentioned before, it is Velcro, but it does in fact lock. It pulls tight, and snaps down into a clip at the tailgate, so locking the tailgate essentially locks the tonneau cover. I can take pics later if you'd like to see it. Unrelated, does anybody know if the OEM bed extender works with this tonneau cover? I'm looking to get it, but the tonneau cover brackets stick out a few inches from the sides of the bed and I'm skeptical that it'll swing by them.

If its anything like the bed extender on My Nissan, it probably will require additional hardware.
Access Lorado was the tonneau cover and they have a kit that has special brackets that allow the bed extender to function as required.
I doubt it is available for the 2nd Gen. Colorado yet but there is a chance they are working on it by now due to the popularity of these trucks.
I'd say contact them and see what they say, I sure like my bed extender and want one on my next truck (Colorado) if at all possible.
Access tonneau covers are great, they last and hold up in the wettest climates. (PNW)

I took some initiative and snapped some pics anyways, also made a few gifs.

To clarify, this is part number 19355365 on the Chevy accessories site.
"Premier Soft Roll-Up (with or without GM Sport Bar), for trucks, Short box by Advantage®"

First, the tonneau installed

The lever to latch/release the cover

Releasing the cover

The tonneau cover is too wide to just roll right past the light bar

You have to angle it to pass the light bar

This creates some slack once both sides are past the light bar

Rolled up the slack

There are 2 loops between the bed and rear window of the cab to secure the hooks to

The tonneau secured

Latching the cover

And lastly, this is one of the brackets for the cover. It sticks out a little over 3" from the side of the bed. Curious if the OEM bed extender would swing by 2 of them, or maybe some other brand.

All of this may be overkill, but hopefully it answers some questions. I remember not being able to find much info on it before I finally just took the leap and ordered it, glad I did.
