I work for a Chevrolet Dealer in Surprise Az. The slot is actually for Credit cards or business cards. It has a little clamp type deal in the back the holds the cards in place!

That's what is making me want to buy a Colorado/Canyon. Really GM??? For some that may be handy but I bet for the most, this is stupid. I hope the y put a trailer brake controller in that spot for the upcoming year. Please ell me you guys are joking about that being a card/badge holder?

I'll bet your right TexazReece that GM is saying its for holding cards (which is totally stupid) and it will work as such. But actually it will have some device there the next year. GM thanks were stupid.

My dealer said if there is a software update or if you have the gps option and need an update .That's where the mechanic would install the update card.

I really hope there is a wire hidden back there to hook up a future stock trailer brake controller. My 2007 silverado had a DIC wire hidden back there so the upgrade could easily be done. The whole card idea to me is dumb.......

The deisel will have the brake controller there as seen in some pictures. The wires are already there in the drivers kick panel for anyone that wants to add one.

Slot

When deciding between the Tacoma, Frontier and Colorado it was that slot that pushed me into ordering one.

my guess is a service slot for a diagnostics tools, be easier for the service department to insert the dealers card and upload/download data. better than the old connector that is used to read service engine codes. Going to ask dealer when my parts get in.

That's where I mounted the gauges/control for my turbo and NO2 system, dyno results momentarily...

By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.

I keep telling myself it's a hand cooler/warmer, call me what you will. But, I swear one of the first nights I was bringing my truck home, and there was a reason for the heat to be on the windshield/front defroster, I swear I could feel heat coming out of it on my hand. I've been puzzled by it as well, and my buddy who sold me the truck has no clue either.

But, that's my story. So, dangit...I'm sticking to it lol

I had a friend who owned a 2008 Saturn Vue. It had a slot almost identical to that at the same location. On the 2009 models, the slot was gone and the row of 4 buttons that control the DIC were in its place(2008's did not have DIC). I know the Colorado has the DIC controls on the turn signal, but wonder if there could have been other intent at some point in the design process.
