First oil change

I bought a 2016 6 cylinder in January, don't even have 2k miles yet and the thing tells me it is at 7% oiled life and wants me to get it changed. It has been parked mostly do to my travels. Does it sound right for the first oil change to be at 2k? What should I check or ask the dealer? I'll take it to the dealer since it has free oil changes.

Thanks

January 2016 or January 2017?

The oil life monitor takes into account many factors. One being that after a year it lowers regardless of mileage.

See pathway 3 of this document.

The first 2 oil changes are covered by GM if you take it to a dealer to have the work done. So why not take it and have a free oil change done?

2K seems rather low for an oil change. I would bring it to the dealer and ask them to note it on the maintenance records so they have a record of the concern. Not sure there is anything they would look into. For me, the majority of my driving is highway miles and my first oil change came around 6K with 10% still on the monitor.

I bought it in January 2017, it has 2k miles on it, mostly highway.

I do plan on taking it to the dealer for the oil change, just was curious if anyone else had their first oil change with so few miles.

What was the build date on the truck? Like stated above, the OLM uses time as one of the factors.

It's probably due to an early build date. I bought my 2016 in October and have 2300 miles on it. Mine is at about 50%.

Could have been sitting on the lot for a while. As others have already said it is will go to 0% after a year regardless of mileage. That said, it is usually good practice to change the oil a little early the first time as there are metal shavings that get caught in the oil from the break-in process.
