Brake Controller Question

Now that the brake controller is an option for the V6 trucks in 2017, can someone tell me if a truck without the brake controller can be fitted with one afterwards. A lot of the Canyon SLE's I have been eyeing dont have them but do have the hitch and trailer wiring. I know on the F150's you can buy the controller, install it, and have a dealer activate it in the BCM for $50 or whatever.

I'm pretty 100% positive you can hook up an aftermarket brake controller. They woudn't have a 'trailer package' without the ability to hook up a brake controller.

In fact...if you do a little google or forum searching...you might find what you're looking for.
