Yeah, they'll put that there for the 0.3% of the people that use an access key, then leave out homelink for the 99.9% of the people that have garages.

Homelink is like the cd player, OLD technology. Get with the times, U can get bluetooth or wifi repeaters for old garage door openers(standard on many new ones), which lets you open them with your phone OR android auto or Apple Car play.

That would mean you have to unlock phone, open app, etc. Tactile buttons are ideal for garage openers.

Use the button on your radio through android auto or car play. Some people would rather complain and hold on to technology from 10 years ago.

I was close to adding homelink but just velcro'd an opener to the top of the space where the usb port is, all the way to the back of it. Sitting in the truck you can't even see it, and it doesn't interfere with the ports and is tucked far away back I don't hit it by accident fumbling with cords or phones or whatever is in that cubby.

These trucks should have hid lamps, homelink, and pushbutton start, at least on the high trim levels. I'm happy with my truck but a ~39k MSRP vehicle without those features is nuts.

Agreed with all of your thoughts on what should be included. One of the reasons I retrofitted HIDs :)

I always assumed that slot was left for owners to be able to retrofit other switches for aftermarket lights, controllers, etc. Or hardware such as radar detector remote readout panels (ie Escort Smartcord)

2015 model here. No android auto.

Plus, who wants to be flipping thru apps and menus trying to open a garage or gate.

Sorry, but in this case a physical, tactile button is ideal. Same reason I hate headunits with no volume knob, or hvac controls without knobs. These are the things that should be able to interact with, without even looking at them.

Additionally, I don't know anyone with Bluetooth garage door openers note have I ever heard of anything like it, not to mention that completely excludes anyone renting where the house doesn't have shiny new Bluetooth garage openers, or any access gates to housing areas or work, etc etc.

Sometimes technology from 10 years ago is simpler and more user friendly than what the "youngsters" come up with to replace it today. They are so caught up in the technology, a simple task is made more complex.

Yeah that 8track player was hot sh!t new technology back in the day. New tech ain't always good tech.

Just because there is a new way to do something doesn't mean it's necessarily a better way of doing it.

I would say it is better... MP3's are better then 8 tracks and AM, fuel injection is better than carbureted, radial tires are better than bias ply. the list goes on and on.

I must have had a misspent youth. I never knew any old, crotchety fools. Just old, wise, life experienced people.
PS, my comment was not intended to imply one should not embrace change, merely to point out some changes are not always better.
