Sad to report, in the dealer waiting for a rental since the truck decided to disable stabilitrac, steering assist, 4wd, rpms drop to zero, and ac doesn't blow cold. All at once.
So update. Tuesday came and they said they couldn't replicate the problem and GM has never heard of this happening. So they cleared the check engine light and sent me on my way. Keep in mind this happened Saturday April 22nd. A week later (today) and almost to the damn hour, it happened again at a red light light. This time with a lurch. Call them up. They asked to come in Monday. I said no I'm coming in now because it's not shifting gears and everything is disabled.
In another Silverado this time. If they can't find the issue or fix it, in going to start looking at buy back options with the dealer before going to corporate in case it happens next Saturday.
And if there are no codes then there is CAN traffic messing stuff up. I have had this happen with my wifi OBD tool plugged in poorly.
If you've done any wiring yourself or use something pluged in to the OBD port, then that could be your issue and why they may not be able to replicate it if youre taking it out??
The only wired thing I've done is a light bar that I put in yesterday. But this happened last Saturday and today. Besides the light bar is ran to the battery. It's not related. I have no idea what is going on. That's why I brought it to the dealer since it's under warranty
GET INVOLVED...... cuz it sounds like your dealer isn't motivated enough to dig deeper.
Exactly what lqdchkn said - If the dealership is not willing to share the codes with you - then you need to visit your local auto store who can/will pull engine codes for you for free. You need to do it before you go back to the dealer or else they will clear them. Having the codes will allow you to do some research on your own and will help you PUSH and motivate the dealership. Either that - or find another dealership.
I'm lucky (knock on wood) that my dealership is pretty good. However - it's a shame these dealerships treat us like 'stupid' consumers and pull the wool over your eyes. That is why.....you need to get involved!!!
I sure hate this for you, it really sucks. I'll be the first to admit that I thought trading into a 17 from my 16 would cure some of my gripes, but as strange as it may seem some things are now just like the 16 were. I gained some ground, but not as much as I'd hoped, and not as much as it seemed at first. It's like the soul of my 16 invaded the new one, and you know you can't make this stuff up. Good Luck!

Speaking to corporate now in case this goes further. Per VA state law, 3 failed attempts at service within the first 18 months of first ownership, it becomes a lemon subject to trade or buy back.

How did you wire the light? Are you using ANY OEM wiring at all? Even just to trip a relay or tap into the OEM lighting?
Just because it seems separate is it really? Some of the OEM wiring is used for signal and communications on the CAN BUS. And while it may be enough to make your accessory work and everything else to seems to work it could be mucking up the communications signals which is tripping your dash error.
I know you said you didn't have one but like I said earlier I have a wifi ODB reader and it came slightly loose and the poor contact from one or more pins on that adapter tripped a ton of alerts on me. There were never any codes from them, just like youre experiencing and come to find out after reseating it fully, Ive never had the issue reoccur.
That experience is why I think it's either something you may have tapped into or something you may have disconnected during your install that didn't get fully reconnected???
This all happened before I even put the light in. The dealer said the light bar isn't the blame. All I'm told is that it's some sort of communication error. And the bar is only wired to the positive and negative battery terminals. The only other wire is the power switch that runs to the relay (part of the light bar wiring) and the switch sits in the cab by my knee.
GM says it's a communication error, but they don't know why or how. They make it sound like an assembly line defect and so far mine is the only case.
Oh to make things more fun. Went to pic it up today. Had next to no gas, okay fine I'll fill up. Then there's this dust/metal particles all over the dash. Take it back to speak with my dealer. He cleans it, and apologies for the gas. Gives me a hat for it. Whatever. However I find this in the first pic. Take it back to service, get the manager involved. And now they're paying the repair. It'll take 3 days, and cost them $700. They have to re-clear the whole quarter panel. Apply new 4x4 decals. And the rock protector. At this point, I almost want this glitch/issue/whatever to come up again, and fail to be fixed so I can look at trading to another one.
I second that. time for a new Dealer. ECM isn't the only module that can wig out the truck. CCM can make it shutdown completely with no warning. They need to look deeper.
For sure that dealer does not have your best interest at hand. Send that photo to GM with your case # and show them how well you are being taken care of. I'd be so pissed, a brand new 17 with 2,000 miles and that's how the dealer is treating you!?
