Yeah, if you've got the 3.5 with the 3.73, you'll have no issue towing a twelve hundred pound rig, but the hitch is definitely needed. i work at an RV dealership, and i've seen more idiots come in after towing a pop up or other small trailer with no bumper left than i care to count.
