OnStar Unlimited Data Offer

Anyone else get an email today about unlimited data for your truck?

For $20 a month I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

Curious how that works, when I got my truck I had to link my truck wifi to my AT&T account, didn't even know that OnStar had a data plan.

You didn't HAVE to do that. But doing so uses your phone plans data pool instead of a prepurchased data set. OnStar always offered data plans you could purchase, just now they have an unlimited one too.

Its kind of a neat feature to have the wifi in the truck. But I don't need another bill...

"Unlimited Data," offer

I've been on the 4 gigs of data for $20/month plan for my Canyon's Wifi for nearly a year. I originally had 1gig which is the next step down but I maxed that out once or twice when traveling last summer, so 4 gigs seemed reasonable and it wasn't much more money. Yesterday I received an email from OnStar offering unlimited data for the same $20/month! So of course I signed up. I've never even come close to using up 4 g's but Unlimited for the same money-why not? Anyone else gotten this offer?

It's on their homepage. I might actually consider this.

I haven't checked to see if I got this offer, but if I go into my OnStar account page it's available there. The 4GB option is completely gone apparently.

I'm considering it too. I already have unlimited data on my cellphone (through Sprint) but Sprint's coverage can be spotty once you go into rural areas. $20 to get a better data signal is worth it though.

I would be curious if it is truly "unlimited". I can't find any small print that says it is throttled at X GBs.

Looks like AT&Ts policy is to throttle after 22GB per month.

I read it may be throttled after 20-22Gb depending on network congestion.

Has anyone experimented with the range on the WiFi signal? Wondering if you need to be sitting inside for it to connect. I'd love to be able to quit the cable company and run my home internet off the truck for $20 a month, lol.

IIRC, the manual says WiFi is good to 50' radius.... but, the key needs to be on ACC. Dunno if I wanna keep the key ON in my truck even in a secure location.

I'm so confused by this offer, not the unlimited but the using WIFI in the truck to begin with.

I have 20gb on my verizon plan, so why would I use the truck wifi over ATT onstar wifi?

I would love to take it out of the truck and use it in the house instead, satellite internet sucks!

Use it as a hotspot for tablets, computers, things of that nature. Anything that doesn't have built in data service, when you are out of range of wifi.

This. So much this. I'm thinking of getting a trickle charger and leaving the key in the truck... For reasons...
