Hitch Replacement Notice - Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon

Hitch Replacement Notice

A few days ago I received a Notice from GMC indicating concern they may have installed a 3500 lb trailer hitch instead of the 7000 lb hitch the truck should have come with. I already had the hitch inspection completed several weeks ago which to inspect for cracking.

Has anyone else received this notice? Who knows how to tell the 7000 hitch from the 3500 hitch? I would rather confirm which one I have myself than take time to take the truck to the dealer.

You still need to go to the dealer to have them clear the recall.

Thanks gents. I did a search and couldn't find anything. I just had the hitch inspection (advised the inspection was for cracks) 2 weeks ago so I was surprised to get a letter about replacement.

The recall letter was prob just slow getting to you I'd just about guarantee its cleared in GM system

I had a discussion with the Service Manager on having to come in, have them look at the hitch, and then possibly come back in for another "visit" to install the new one. Solution: take a picture of the hitch and text it to them. (Shot looking straight down the receiver, not off to one side...) They looked at it and what I have is fine. No wasted trip...
