EGR Removal ULTIMATE DISCUSSION

Like the delete thread, I thought a dedicated thread talking about the EGR removal would be a good idea. Also, the Exhaust delete thread has got quite lengthy, and even being part of it from the beginning, I know there is information in there just difficult to find.

I ordered my kit from Diesel Ops: OZ Tuner EGR Delete Kit for GM Duramax Colorado/Canyon 2.8L Diesel 2015-2016

Haven't attempted install yet, my understanding is that it is quite a task. Hoping this thread can shed some tips, pictures, and maybe even videos (hint hint).

Please feel free to post other EGR Delete comments, questions, parts, etc.

Well my video is a crazy fast time lapse because I'm guessing it was over twenty hours of video. I'll post it tonight, still no word back from sasquatch parts so... I can give you my number to text or call if you get stuck anywhere along the way. Also you will need a fuel line separator and a ton of coolant before starting because if you don't have those then that's a trip to the store.

I believe someone has already posted pictures on the forums here (can't remember where they are....part of the reason for this thread). My kit is at home so I can't grab picture right now.

Has the EGR caused problems on this specific truck, or is this just removal under speculation that it will cause problems at some point, after many miles?

I've seen the amount of crap in the intake already and I am at 10,000 miles. It's coming off.

Yes it's gonna cause problems, this is a picture I took of my throttle body and intake manifold at 6.5k miles.

Asks an update on that video, sasquatch dinky got back with me and gave me the go ahead to post it but I'm out of town on a short road trip and forgot my hard drive with it on it. I'll be back home Wednesday though. Sorry about the delay.

Well, I've emailed Sasquatch twice asking about price and availability for their kit, and have had no response at all. Funny, they state on their site that they intentionally have no phone, but have email only support so that they can devote their resources to providing outstanding customer service. Seems to be outstanding in the wrong way so far to me. I guess I'll be getting the Oz kit.

Well I did ask them to make minor changes to their kit and instructions, maybe that's the slow down. They could still be debating on price as well.

That throttle body is begging for a cleaning.

Thanks for the kit pics. The contents look simple. Upon install some tuning is required?

Yes tuning is required before install or you will be put into limp mode and when you the it to the dealership they will tell you to put it all back on.

While the intake is coated with soot, it is far from being choked off.

Not yet. That's only 6500 miles. Not even one oil change interval.

If you examine the pic closely, the soot buildup in the intake in minimal. My throttle body doesn't have the slimy oil buildup on it either.

Not hating on you or anyone else whom thinks an EGR delete is absolutely positively necessary.

Oh no, didn't take it like that at all. Just good discussion.

My thought is that yes, the soot is not particularly thick or heavy now, but if it made that in just 6500 miles, how much more will have at, say, 65,000 miles? It will only keep getting thicker and heavier.

Do you have a catch can on yours? Seems so far everyone who has opened up their intakes all have oil coating it. I can see a catch can drastically reducing build up in the tract, but then that just means all that stuff is then just going inside the motor.

And that stuff is abrasive. For all the work done designing air filters, and ensuring good clean air is supplied, then to just pump all that abrasive media right in there just makes no sense to me.

Right or wrong, I would think a continuous soot buildup in the intake would require a liquid or semi-liquid. Like water or oil from the PCV blowby.

FWIW, I have a catch can installed.
