Just had my first problem on emmisions couple weeks ago and they replaced something. I rarely ever tow but last Friday towed by buddies 18 foot Ranger boat to my house to use this next weekend because he is on vacation and we have tournament tomorrow. When I got boat home from work 40 miles and put it in my garage as soon as went to pull away the engine light for emission came on and stayed on and truck was cutting out. I was frustrated just thinking it was same issue as what they may have fixed but it cleared when I went back out to drive it an hour later. worked great all weekend and all this week but I hooked up to boat yesterday to bring to work with me and once I got to work 40 miles and dropped it light came back on after I dropped it and it was cutting out and hardly would run. Smelled like burning too. I knew then I have an issue when towing something and when I stop to drop all this happens after 40 miles. Truck cleared again parked and 2 hrs later fine and running fine with no towing. Have appointment to take in Monday and will have to use my 04 Lexus this weekend to tow but has anyone had this issue. Again I have only towed a boat a 2 times and that was last year and no issue then. Truck has 39800 miles on it. I was thinking about trading it in for a new zr2 diesel but not I am not sure what I want to do. Love the truck and haven't had any issue till couple weeks ago and now this.
almost like it losing power or something and like out of fuel . it isn't good for sure. Just weird it is after I tow for 35 miles then when I stop all this happens.
Strange. Hope you get this resolved soon. Keep us posted.
When you say emissions light are you talking CEL or DEF light? Have you checked fuel filters? Hate to see you have an issue after having such good luck from new.
Could be a loose wire or short. Symptoms get worse when put under load and things get hotter. If it's emissions stuff then I'd do a delete and keep the truck forever since it seems to be all issues are associated with the emissions system. You'll then have a very reliable truck. After I get out of warranty that's what I'll be doing. Reduced soot in the engine and improved MPG are bonuses.
well today while running around we was on hyw doing about 60 and great big jerk and sounded like tranny or something and light is now back on and never went off. Came home 50 miles and parked it and will drop at dealer Monday at am and get loaner. I had it set up but now light is on when not towing and another jolt while running. Crazy. Like I said I was about to trade for a new zr2 diesel but now I am wondering if these emissions will become constant issue an warranty only last to 60k. Im little over 40k now on mine. Test drove a zr2 gas 2 weeks ago and that new 8 speed was lot nicer than the 16 I tested in gas with 6 before I went diesel. I still plan on getting another bass boat myself and if I stay in the Colorado I feel like the diesel is only way for towing. plus cant beat the 28 mpg I get. But might just go back to full size and get 15 mpg but man I hate too. I really have grown to like this truck a lot. And the zr2 would even be nicer. oh well lets see what happens next week at shop
code was not emmisions and was something else but light went out and they said code couldn't figure it out and said they drove it 3 days and no issues. I picked it up and told them when im going down the road and it does it im going to keep going and let it do whatever and when it falls they can wrecker it. Don't know what to think or do. I know I get a boat hooked up and get 50 miles away im screwed. Maybe I need to look at trading it now the code is off and get either full size again or just try a new Colorado zr2 and hope it don't has no issues.
What was the code?
I wonder if you have an issue in the trailer wiring for brake controller. I have seen this on the full size 2015, the brake controller would send signal to ECM that brakes were being applied( when they in fact were Not) and would set code for brake on while accelerator applied, thinking you were 2 footing and derate engine power. Switched out the brake controller and no more issues. Just food for thought.
If you want the ZR2 then go for it. But i would not give up on a vehicle this quickly. :smile2:
they said code was something to do with the fuel on gas model which mine is diesel. Said they could not get it to mess up again. so I got it back and been driving it and now put another 500 miles on it and no issues but haven't towed again. I love this truck and decided with the warranties being 80k on emission I am going on tomorrow and meeting with another dealer in town where I work to see if they can locate me a diesel zr2 crew in the color I want. I know I can get black green or white but I want a silver one and they may not able to find one. If they do hopefully ill have my zr2 later this week and ill post pictures.. cant wait!!
well I went in today and dealer only offered 26500 trade on my 16 diesel crew Colorado with 40800 miles with katskins leather and bose system and nav and all weather mats. I expected at least 31k real trade. Wow .
well I had same issue over weekend and dropped back to dealer Sunday night. They just called and light was still on this time and said they had to call Chevy and their Tech had said they think it is a wiring harness by the A/c and it is fuel related and they need to put on new protected harness and move it away. and they seem to think this may be the issue for they have had this happen on other trucks that come on and then clear. They said it is not warranty because electrical and will cost me $190 with labor. I said this makes no since if they put this in area where this happens but Chevy said they will not cover it and dealer and Chevy has no guarantees this is the issue for sure and will fix the problem but they think it is and place to start. I told them no thank u I have had the truck 16 months 41 miles and if they cant even tell me this is issue the $$ keep running up. Light is out for now they cleared it and guess I may park it until I trade it in. Really shocked Chevy is not covering this issue being something like this but oh well. Guess they expect you to buy the 100k bumper to bumper warranty including electrical. Maybe all the manufactures do . I guess ive been spoiled and between Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tundra and tacomas I never had these issues that came up so fast and the few that did they covered them even past 36k and said it shouldn't happen. But that may not be like that anymore because I haven't had any issues with those two brands at all in past 8 years because I had no issues with either of them but I know all vehicles have issues no matter the brand I just didn't. It is not related to the diesel at all. Love the truck but cannot just pay for fixes that may not be issue and then pay more as it goes.
well as I was upset as you can tell when I posted earlier. Problem if this fixes it has nothing to do with towing or diesel. after they told me I still had to pay $98 for them to figure this out I went ahead and paid the other $100 to repair. Will get back tomorrow. we will see if it is fixed..
There is a TSB on this harness getting chafed by the A/C. I would not pay a dime. Have the dealer look into this. Just got back from trip, and leaving in the morning on another trip. Going up north. Hope the dealer can get this sorted out thru warranty.
Not sure where this wiring issue may be, maybe it has to do with the tongue weight causing the rear to squat which makes the wiring harness to be stretched or hitting something. Let us know...
no because now it happens and im not towing. They said that chevy said they think this is the problem?? They have had it happen being intermitton. They said it is ran above the a/c area and they think it is now probably touching messing with the fuel and shorting something to do making it jerk like it is bad fuel or fuel getting cut off. who knows. that is why I was upset and they don't know this is the problem and because I am at 41k plus on miles they wont cover it. I would understand but sounds if chevy ran these wires and harness across this a/c area and this happens it is bad manufacturing problem and should be free.. but oh well. if it doesn't fix then I pay more till they find it I guess
yep. that is what it was and it fixed the issue. weird deal, no warranty but $198 wasn't a big deal. I do have 42k on it as of today so guess 198.00 isnt huge. I just thought due to issue of why is it rubbing it shouldnt be. But trying to get my trade on zr2 and cant get one in silver so now im waiting for dealer to call me when it will take my order and accept it on 18. gas models it is excepting but not diesel yet. they are giving me fair trade and cant wait.
