Modular camping - let's share ideas!
Well it's done; I just ordered an ARE CX HD shell and now have to wait 4 to 5 weeks for delivery. It will have a solid ally drivers side pop-up panel, a passenger pop-up window with central slider and a rear window. My plan is to add partitions/boxes/sleeping platform of my own design to make it into a quick, week-end, bug-out truck. My original intent was to install air and a house battery as permanent fixtures but to keep the truck's uses as flexible as possible, and for security reasons, I've been toying with a more modular approach; compressor-in-a-box; house power in-a-box, slide-out galley that is completely removable, same for storage boxes and bed. The tricky part will be making sure that when the modules are installed, they are locked-in and not bouncing around in the back.
I visited a store yesterday that had some Australian made bed boxes that simply run on HD poly runners; no expensive steel slider mechanisms. My bed is already lined so a little rough but I'm sure I can work something out that could use a similar approach.
Anyhow, anyone done anything similar or thought about it?
