The stock filter has a foam overlay filter on top of the paper one. This would lead me to believe that GM realllllllly is concerned about keeping dust out of the engine.

Almost any higher flowing media is going to let more dirt unless you are adding filtration area.

The extra layer on the filter is much more coarse than the filter itself which tells me it won't help with filtration. I think that layer is just there to cut down further on noise which might offend "sensitive drivers". And they certainly wouldn't want the public to hear the diesel. That would kill all sales.

Ordered the intake tube today. How important is it to add the hot and cold boost tubes after installing this intake tube?

It's not... The profab intake won't affect the hot or cold sides negatively. The weak link is the plastic tube on the cold side. That tube is prone to cracking under boost and has been known to fail. You could get away with just the cold side if you're worried

I agree, but I had bugs and grass on mine when I had it out. Probably is for sound... the added air flow from keeping the larger debris from blocking the pleats is probably not really significant.

I don't see enough of gains to justify a filter that's going to let more dust in. The big thing for me would be being able to just wash it and re-use.

I'm liking this intake setup. I've been driving with the windows down and I'm getting a third gear scratch when accelerating at about 60% throttle. Whoo-Hooo!

How long is the wait for production on these? I sent in an order on April 27th and have yet to receive any shipping confirmation. Maybe he got slammed with orders? Eh, might have to give him a jingle next week...

Definitely love the bead rolled ends of the hard pipe
I like the rough powder coat and the silicone boots are heavy duty
Included all hardware
Hey, on your PCV valve was the fitting pretty loose? I'm trying to get it to stay put but it wants to wiggle itself un flush
