I searched for 'brake squeal' and the threads were fairly old, so I'm posting about a 2008 truck.
The dealer says it's normal...you gotta be kidding. What's the fix for REAR brake squeal?

I just had mine cleaned and adjusted (07 21k) and it fixed the squeal on mine.

I'm baffled as to why I would need to pull my brake drums off of the back of my 2008 truck when I NEVER had to do that with a 1964 Pontiac that had drums on all 4 corners and never squealed like this truck does.
You can see my point, I'm sure. Is the brake material different or is there some reason the dust isn't evacuated from the inside and therefore causes the noise. Really. It IS annoying and sometimes gets strange looks when a brand new truck sounds like the wheels are coming off when coming to a stop.

The friction materials have changed some over the years and so has the iron alloys used to cast the brake drums. The gap between the drum and backing plate doesn't allow for alot of air or water flow to keep the dust cleaned out. So the dust accumulates. In years past this dust was corrosive to the backing plate, brake springs, etc. So I got in the habit of pulling the drums off at every tire rotation and cleaning eveything up.

Cool.
It's due for the Discount Tire free rotation inspection anyway. I'll ask them to do that when they service the truck. Excellent. Thanks.

Mine is an 08 with 6500 miles on it, does what jays does. After 2 or 3 times stopping it goes away. If it is dust, then I understand. I live in West Virginia so the coal trucks keep it dusty here.
