Can i siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3?

Just wanted to know if there is a way to siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3 Colorado?

I know years back on older cars and trucks you just jammed a hose in and sucked away.

I will need to remove most all of my 87 when i get a 93 tune done.

Why not put some octane booster in it until your next fill-up?

With what software are you doing the tune? I was not aware anybody offered software support yet for the 2010's, only the 2009's with the 5.3's.?

2009 3LT with 5.3, Trueflow intake, Magnaflow exhaust.

Lot's of cars mfg. recommended for 93 run just fine on 87. Just avoid running the newly tuned 5.3 hard until you fill up with 93.
Just listen for ping and back off if you hear it.

not sure why you just don't drive until the gas is gone then fill up with 93 and then get the tune. Your looking at more trouble than its worth to get the gas out. if you must un-hook your gas line from the fuel pump hook up a new piece it to your gas jug then jumper 12v to the pump or turn the key on(not sure if accessory powers the pump so this might not be an option)

Re: Can i siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3?

just run it really low, then fill with 93
or you could run it really low, put octane booster in, then fill with 93
or if you want to be really cautious do what I said above twice

Re: Can i siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3?

Here is the problem.

The company i work for buys my gas every week but will only pay for 87 no if ands or butts.

I would sell the reg to a friend for cheaper and replace the gas with 91 or better.

Re: Can i siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3?

Are you saying that you want to pump it dry weekly? If so, it sounds like you are going to have to mod the gas lines and fuel pump relay circuit. I'd also be worried about wearing out a fuel pump. I have never worked on a Collie fuel pump but if it is like other GM in the tank pumps, it does not like to be pumped dry. The pump uses the gasoline it sits in for cooling. I know in the Chevy Blazer there is a check valve (big ball) in the main filler line making it impossible to run a hose through the filler and into the tank.

So you drive the Colorado on someone else's dime? In that case, they have a right to tell you what to pump since they are paying for it. How about filling up with 93 but only submitting reimbursement for the cost of 87? You pay the difference?
Or tell the company you will take a pay cut if they let you use 93.

It's 87 or nothing. No way around it or paying the diff. I was hoping i suck out most of the gas at home and refill up with 93.

Just get a empty gas tank or buy some empty gas cans, put them in the back of your truck, then fill them up with the 87 octane. Fill your truck up with the 93 octane, then go home and sell the 87 out of the extra gas tank / cans.

This will get "old" pretty fast, Best idea I see is to add octane booster, you can actually make your own if you wish , do a search on the web for a how to..... but your on your own..... I do not endorse ,

I would be fired on the spot if i did that. My tuner says he can do a two phase tune that will run on 87 and 93.

I will figure something out.

Fired on the spot? I'm assuming now that you fuel up on company property. If that's the case, I wouldn't have made the suggestion. I just figured they gave you a company fuel card with a P.I.N. / password and tracked your mileage per tank like most other companies.

Re: Can i siphon gas out of my 2010 5.3?

The company i work for has a account for just one Shell gas station, i am given a sheet of paper with my name and my truck info on it i had over to the clerk. I am allowed a max of 25 gals per week only one fill up per week. I only use around 15 gals a week.

We are not allowed to fill extra gas cans, anyway someone at the station or at work would see the gas cans sitting in the back of the truck. Wished i would install a hidden tank under the truck some how.

What you could do then is (don't know if it's worth the hassle though) relocate your spare tire to the truck bed and install a fuel cell in it's place the run your truck. Then leave your OEM fuel tank and filler neck installed to store the 87 octane, but install a drain plug at the bottom of the tank. And fill up your fuel cell with the 93 you need a different station so the clerks won't catch on. Where there's a will, there's a way.
