Remote start

Anyone have one for our trucks? All my diesel buddies(i use to have a 7.3) have them and I love the idea of just hitting it then grab coffee and trucks warmed up plenty not that our gas engines need it but I always let it sit for a minute or two. Wal Mart has a "universal" one for like 35$ figured I would see if anyone has something similar w.o it bugging out.

Re: Remote start

I would be careful about adding an aftermarket remote start. I've seen some threads from members who have electrical problems after making the modification. The Colorado like most if not all new vehicles are computer controlled using modules called BCM and PCM. I think there is something called CAN BUS too. You can bugger up these modules with electrical additions. It's not like the old days.
Here is an explanation of canbus.

Re: Remote start

I am going to have a remote start installed in my 2009 Colorado sometime in the next few weeks. I had one in the truck that I traded in on this one and I really miss having it. I am getting a COMPUSTAR brand but I am not sure which model I want yet. I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: Remote start

I truly feel that it mostly depends on the quality of the after-market devices.
I had remote start on 3 different vehicles (Sierra, Safari and Grand Am) with no issues at all. worked perfectly for years.
But, I paid between $350-$550 for each including installation at the dealership. where as my current boss had nothing but problems with one he has on his BMW. (seems he paid $49 @ walmart for his lol) and he just spent a week in the garage waiting for replacement parts for what was burnt out under the hood.
and that's not the 1st time i've heard of that. the cheap ones will try to restart the vehicle randomly when the fail. even while driving on a highway!

bottom line: you get what you paid for.

I've got a compustar on my Caliber, (3 years now), no problems, and I'll be doing the same on the Canyon. IMO, as long as its a qualified experienced installer ("non "Bestbuy, Walmart etc install) I don't expect any problems, never had any in 20+ years.
I go the whole way, starter (if automatic), alarm, and I add the window module.... I love having the windows roll up as I arm the system. Had the woindow module on my Xterra as well as the caliber and I still forget to roll up the windows on the canyon as I leave... habit of being lazy.

Re: Remote start

I had a Compustar remote start installed today. Model # RF-P1WG4-900. It was installed in my 2009 Colorado Crew Cab. It works great.
