Default Tow question

There is a sticker on my tailgate step that has the tow rating on my vehicle. It says that it can tow 5,000 pounds and then 6,000 pounds distributing rate.

Im not sure what the differance is. Thanks

If that is what it's called a "distribution" hitch has "bars" that attach to the frame, making it able to handle more weight.

Maybe this link could help to explain.

I would not tow a 5,000lb trailer (unless you have the V and I most definitely would not put a 5,000lb trailer on my bumper.

It doesn't say what your truck can tow either, it says what the hitch/bumper is rated at. If you have an owners manual, look at that to find out what the combined weight limits are.

I have the 2009 I5 4x4 z85 Extended Cab. It has the tow package with the real hitch. Sticker says 5000 withould the distribution hitch. I need to pull an 18 foot boat down the street a few miles. Im pretty sure it wont be an issue.

Boat weights about 2800 pounds and trailer is around 1200.
