Default sounds like metal under tension

so the other day i was putting my water bill in the drop box at the city building and when i pulled up to it i was at a weird angle and with my foot on the brake i turned the steering wheel and before it got close to full lock i started hearing this sound like metal being put under tension. it was a creeking, moaning, groaning sound. didnt matter which way i turned the wheel it made the sound. its never done it before, but now that it has i can duplicate it anytime i want. if the brakes are not applied it does not make any noise, and turns smoothly. anyone else had this problem?

Does it only do it while you are steering, and not moving?

Sound like it could be a dry steering component if it's only during steering.

Have somebody steer for you while you are listening under the front end. Maybe a bad tie-rod end or something. I guess there is a possibility it could be something suspension related in that the body tweaks when you steer from one side to another.

only when steering and not moving with the brakes applied. if i let off the brakes it doesnt do it. talked to my dad and he says hes had several cars that have done this, and as long as its not doing it while driving im ok. im not 100% sure on that one though. i've wanted to get out and look at it but its been between 95* & 105* here for the last 2 weeks. i dont go out unless i have to when its that hot. id much prefer winter.

Staying at home and having help to investigate a potential problem will be a lot better than being stranded on the road side in the same heat, with a worse problem then you have today.
Just sayin'.

Or, the guys in the shop don't mind working in the heat and collecting your money.

Sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do. Or wait until it cools off to ask the question? LOL
