Dont mean to redirect you into putting long boards on your roof (I have Kayaks up there too) but the single best decision I made was this set up:

we use them so much more that they are inflatable, and once you are on them, you cant tell.

I have the Thule setup.. Obviously you can outfit the truck only but the spread is very short when the boards are 11'+

Other options I have seen used is a cross bar rack on the bed rail (like half a construction rack) and the other on the truck cab to spread the distance

We use the cross bars on the shell and the cab. That gives me about a 6 1/2' spread

It got pretty costy cause the cross bars are different for the shell and the cab. I could only buy the complete set for each so I have an extra cross bar for the cab and the shell.

Yakima has similar racks, both good stuff... I'm sure there are others as well

All parts are lockable including the straps. Easy to install and remove

Have fun!

I had to modify one I found on Craigslist. Back when they didnt make one for our vehicle.
Thule Xsporter Pro 500XT Pickup Truck Rack 2017

There are models from 299 to 799.

Saddles run from $50 to $200.

I like etrailer just due to their price and customer service.

When I bought this was a good price... haven't checked lately

Check with the Thule site to confirm proper item fit

They also have a different model with a round cross bar (older model) Requires different rack and feet,
I believe slightly cheaper?
