ZQ8 wheels on a Z71 - looks sharp

I was playing with photoshop and found that the ZQ8 style wheels are very sharp as compared to the stock wheels that come with the Z71. This is my major gripe with the truck as I think the wheels that come with the Z71 look cheep and don't compliment the handsome and agressive front end. Anyway, just some ideas I was throwing around.

I would have to disagree. I have come to like the wheels on my Z71. I think they're very aggressive. But I think it took the BFGs to complete the look.

Not to mention, the ZQ8 wheels are 17s. It does look like you kind of compensated for that in your pic, but the tires would look different in the end.

Good look? Absolutely. And a very innovative idea of you to photoshop it! But I'll take my Z71 wheels over those.

I was actualy contemplating putting 17s on my Z71 because the 15s are way too small. I think im just gona go with 16s. Heres some 17s...

Now *those* wheels ROCK.

I like the look of a thick, beefy tire on a bigger rim, as opposed to a taller tire on a smaller rim.

Unfortunately, I won't be changing mine until my BFGs give up at about 70,000. Which is just as well, considering I won't be able to afford rims for a couple of years...

I think the ZQ8 rims look pretty good on the Z71.

I wouldn't necessarily say that the size of the Z71 wheels is what bothers me but the style rather. My dad's Avalanche has 17 inch pollished aluminum wheels that look and blend a lot better with, for example, the aluminum bar that goes across the front of the truck. I think that for wheels to be painted silver, they must compensate with some other design feature and to me the ZQ8 wheels do have a better-looking design. I agree though, offroad trucks need big bulky tires, I wouldn't change that. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

I agree and there are three reasons why:
  • Better design of wheels
The wheels are of a better material (looks like chrome)
    The tires are white-lettered

For '05 GM should have brought in at least a white-lettering option for the tires to take attention away from the wheels and big bulky tires. I like to get dirty, but I like to dress up my ride as well.

The zq8 rims look awesome on the z71!!! Fa sho! Beefier tires and some white letters would make it look even better. I can't get enough of "plus" size rims on 4x4's. Within reason of course. I wouldn't put some low pros on a 4x4 but you'll understand what I'm saying. Also, that's a photo shop pic?!?! That looks amazing!!!

I'm in the minority that like the Z71 wheels. If I would change one thing about them, I would make lug cover texture match the rest of the wheel like on the Silverado wheels. That way it doesn't scream "hey I'm a plastic lug cover!"

Just added some more of my custom designs to the first post additional to the original ZQ8 wheel on the Z71 truck combo. Send me a wheel if you want me to put it on the truck for you.

The AQ8 wheels with some big beefy Toyo's or something on them would look GREAT for an offroad Z71, IMHO.

Can the rims from a silverado or avalanche fit on a 'rado or 'yon? I have seen some pretty damn cool rims on the avalanche that appear to be chevy originals! Anyone know for sure?

***UPDATE***

I found those rims. They the only picture in my gallery if anyone wants to look to see what rims I am talking about. (or perhaps photoshop them on a crew Z71 for me? hehe)

Well I think GM did fine with the actuall wheels now the tire's I definately think GM screwed the hell up on I would have liked to see them put on some of the bfg at's on the truck's,that's one of the items on my list to do down the road after I get my Lund lighted 52"inch running boards and my Lund sunvisor 2 sunvisor painted black to match my truck and get it installed with the light kit that I also got for it.

Possibly to have a Ext cab Z-71 4x4 Colorado

Here's "thesniper's" request for the Colorado with Avalanche wheels. And because dkstang76 was bothered by some incorrect elements on the previous pictures, I fixed some things. (I know the fill hole is on the wrong side).
