Default Oil change interval

So what are you guys doing for intervals between oil changes?

I am using synthetic oil and going 5,000 miles between changes. But due to some unforseen financial problems, I am having to extend that a bit.

So how long are you guys going between changes? Is anyone changing the oil when the display tells you to?

I change the oil every 5000 miles...ish.

Somewhere between 5000 and 7500 typically, depends how long it takes me to get free time. Right now, for example, I'm at about 6000 miles, and will probably go another 1000 before I get a chance to change it.

Everyone hits money crunches and looks for ways to save.

If you are running a full, good quality synthetic oil you do not need to be changing your oil every 5000miles unless you are doing heavy duty towing or off roading, then yes you should change more often.

Do I use the oil life monitor (OLM)? No, but I do go about 15000km for each oil change. One of my clients has Colorados in their corporate fleet as well, they're a truck dealership (Mack and Volvo) and they do use the OLM, they do oil analysis and the OLM is *very* trust worthy.

If I needed to stretch my pennies, would I trust the OLM? Definately. It has been around for a long time, and GM has never had a problem with it. I'm actually considering using it this time around.

Others around here will tell you you'll fry your engine, it won't last as long, etc. If they could find evidence that the OLM doesn't work, I'd read it, but it's far and few between.

GM would not line themselves up for litigation - additionally, if it didn't work, why would other manufacturers be attempting to license it?

I just changed from reg oil to Royal Purple at my stealership. They put on the sticker to go 5000, so I guess I will $65 every 5000 miles, I guess its ok.

Right now I'm still running dino oil and was changing oil/filter every 5k. At 30k I'm gonna change to Mobil 1 and change the filter and top off oil at 5k intervals then Mobil 1 at every 10k interval.

Once the engine is broken in I would use Amsoil synthetic and change when the OLM says so.
