Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

I recommend the new Kenwood DNX9140. It's bad ass!

Yes, it is highly recommended to get a harness adapter. If you get a double-din with DVD and Navi, the GMOS-01 will help ease wiring. It has connections for the park switch, speed sensor (for Pioneer navi), reverse switch (if you add a reverse cam) and has volume control for the chimes.

I have a Kenwood DDX8019 in my truck: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=49046

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

I'm debating myself about switching headunits yet again. I want a double-din, but it always seems to me like they would be hard to reach, and view in the collys. Is that true? If so, I'll just stick with what I've got.

Here mine its a power akoustic hunk off shit, well its alright, but its nothing what i thought it would be, you cant look through you songs without taking out the ipod , it is very basic boring screen, for your heads up try and find pics of the unit screens before you buy...unless youjust want a touch screen in that case buy mine:P

Do you have trouble reaching your HU now?

Most also come with a remote.

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

No, I don't have any trouble. And I know that sounds like a stupid question, but most double-din HU's have buttons on the bottom in addition to the touchscreen controls themselves (as I KNOW you know) and it seems to me like they would be hard to reach.? That's why I'm asking though, because I'm use to my touchscreen being at a higher level (flip-up).

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

Well, the fullscreen Kenwoods have the capability to tilt outwards from the bottom. So, if you can reach your HU now, you'll be able to reach a Kenwood 6.95" fullscreen double-din. The tilt feature also deters glare and makes it really easy to see the screen.

You can see in this pic how the bottom is tilted out

I've got the Pioneer AVIC-D3, 6.5" touchscreen with navigation/dvd/etc.

Great unit, probably pretty dated now though lol

Here is a picture of my Avic F700BT. It used to be terrible before some recent firmware mods, still isnt the greatest but it does everything I could ask.

Just got the DNX7140 put in. It's perfect. Same features minus .03 inches on the screen and one less usb input for a few less bills..I also added an aux component input to under the dash to plug in computers or playstation, etc. it does it all, and it does it perfectly, including your phone's bluetooth and navigation. I still have the boxes from the installers...let me see if i can find the wire harness number in the mess of stuff they gave me and i'll get back with you.

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

The DNX7140 is an excellent HU. I'm not discrediting it at all.

I like the SQ adjustability of the eXcelon models like the 9140.

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

You get quite a bit more with the 9140 for the price difference.

7 channel output vs of 5
5v preamp output vs 2v <~~ this makes a big difference
13 EQ bands vs 5 bands
Surround Control DSP vs System Q-EX/System E's+
2 year warranty vs 1 year warranty
2 USB inputs vs 1 USB
2 A/V inputs vs 1

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

any annoyances with the brightness of those HU's. I do a lot of driving at night and having some bright screen on my dash would give me a headache, how well can you dim most units... for me the darker the better.

Re: Lets see your double din stereos...

I can dim mine to the point that you can't read it at night. You can set the brightness to be automatic as well. Mine is set bright for day-time then really dim for at night. It automatically switches to the dim screen when the headlights come on. The only drawback I have with the dim setting I have mine set for night driving is the screen is black at dusk and dawn. When the sun is low enough for the headlights to come on but still bright enough that the screen just looks black.
