However, if you bot the whole truck you would get a lot of the extra parts that would normally nickel and dime you to death. I will admit I do not have a great understanding of the BCM. Will gauges continue to function if you run a non computerized engine? Will ABS still function? Hydroboost or some sort of vacuum pump will be required for brakes.
Here's an adapter that will get you through a big hurdle.
http://www.transmissioncenter.org/cu...bt_adapter.htm
wait so that adapter is also for the 700r4? Does the collys tranny share the same bellhousing bolt pattern with it then? cause many bread vans came with chevy adapter plates on them for running the t350/400's. and a 4.3 tranny is the same as a sbc.
The 4l60e in the colorado has a different bellhousing bolt pattern then the F-body and truck 4l60e.

So its unique to the colorado then. ****. ok. Ill have to deal with that when/if the time comes. So how strong is the collys manual tranny? Whats available to beef those up? Im thinkin id wanna go with the auto for the type of truck id be trying to make, but it would definitly be cheaper and easier to go manual.

our 4L60E just has a different bellhousing and input shaft which could be changed and then it would be like the full size tranny

I've been looking into the same swap, but don't have the money right now. From what I can find, the Cummins 4BT was an optional engine for the P30 Chevy step vans, hence the Frito Lay trucks. A diesel freak friend of mine suggested finding one of the vas because they would come with a tranny, mounting plate, bell housing, etc. to make the swap easier, but that would depend on what you want to follow the engine. I'm looking more into the project for now, but probably won't even be able to try it myself for another year.

Cummins? Nah not for me.
I would do something like 4-53T detroit engine with a 3 link coil dana 44 up front. Mild good clean lift all around, and if there is enough room throw a gear venders behind the Aisin 5 speed.

The atlas engines dont use the ls style bell housing?

I would take a dodge cummins over a chevy duramax any day. Wish chevy would dump the duramax and put the cummins in there trucks.
Detroit are some of the crappiest engine all around CAT is the top dog in all diesel trucks C-15
