Default Type 2 Data bus question

Has anyone installed their new HU without the data bus hook up? What happens if I don't use it. Had this HU for almost 2 years and haven't installed it because of this reason. Any input would help thanks.

Mine was installed in my 05 without the bus and when you shut off the truck and got out the radio would stay on. I got tired of turning the radio on and off, so I went and bought the adapter harness for it.
I am new to this forum so some of the other people on here may have a way to wire the unit so it will shut off without the adapter, but i never could figure one out.

I believe without the adapter the best you can get for auto-shut off is the 15 min timer on the accessory fuse box etc

I don't know about the accessory timer. I know that I left my truck for an hour and the radio didn't shut off.
I was told by GM that the radio is shut off by a signal that goes to to radio via the bus, and if I remember correctly there was only one hot lead going to the connector for the radio.
I could be wrong though.

Look up RAP mod, It will allow your new head unit to act just like the stock one, however you will not have the chimes, but who cares. It is a simple mod, works great and I have had no problems with dying battery or any junk like that. new HU turns off when the doors open, also now my right cigg lighter will lose power once the doors turn off, which is a battery saver on it's own if your running sirius or gps type of thangs. And I saved some thick coin on not buying that terrible sounding "chime" adapter.
