ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

About once or twice a week my POS passlock trips me up and will not let me start my truck, the security light on dash blinks and after about 9 minutes it will come on steady and I can then crank my truck and go about my business. This happens sometimes 2 or 3 times in one day and then it may not do it for a week or so. Any ideas as to what I can do to prevent this from happening, I am not sure what I am doing wrong but everytime it happens, my truck like almost starts and I let go of key too soon. Therefore I try like hell to make sure I hold key all the way until it actually starts, even though it still happens sometimes.

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

First step is to search the forum, since there are a ton of topics about passlock.

Next, try cleaning the key up a bit. I read that can help [and its free].

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

mine was doing the same thing, tokk it to dealer at first , left it for 3 days , they could not reproduce the problem so i picked it up and sure enough 2 days later it did it so my dealer called there tech support which told them to test the passlock sensor, they changed it and it hasent done it since, its been about a month, but considering it was doing it about twice a week , im pretty sure that was the problem

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

Had the same problem with my 2004 colorado. Many trips to dealer, rental car, monitoring device.
Finally diagnosed it myself. It was the passive anti-theft device caused by a faulty ignition switch. This was after an unnecessary fuel injection clean, two separate monitoring devices.... Gm paid to replace ignition switch...even after warranty expired. FYI in the interim....wait exactly 10 seconds before trying to restart.

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

I have the same frickin problem!!!!! I have an aftermarket (Clifford) top of the line remote start/alarm system on my truck! When I auto start with my remote and for some reason it don't start (like if I havent driven it for a few days) then it wont even start with the key!!!!!!!!! I have to wait like 10mins, and then it will fire right up! I called the audio dealer that installed it and they said to bring it in so they can look at it. But I'm wondering if that is going to be a waste of time. What do you guys think? Is this the same passlock problems that I'm incountering? It will just sit there and turn over but never start!! So frustrating exspecially when I'm late for work.

I'd take it to the dealer to get a replacement sensor. You should still be under warranty, right?

You can always call customer service. They might be willing to give you a discount or something. It wouldn't hurt.

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

lilwranglergirl, it is not the aftermarket equipment causing you to wait 10 min... there is a key code sensor in your steering column, being that you have an 06 i would suspect that it is covered under warranty. take it to the dealer.

Okay then why does it do it only when I use my aftermarket remote? Any it never does it when I use my key, I have NO problems then, none what so ever!!!

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

lilwranglergirl, odd, are you saying that when the security system is activated, you can still use the truck using only your key?

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

NOPE! When I use my remote to start the truck, and it doesn't start, then the key wont work to start it. But when I use the remote to dissarm the alarm/unlock the doors and use the key it works everytime. It has nothing to do with the secuity system, just the remote starting system. Its not the stock security system anymore. I hope that makes a little sense? BTW my key doesnt have a chip in it!

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

lilwranglergirl, it could be the passlock system in your case, but I think you have a problem with your passlock bypass module for your alarm system. Do you ever have problems when you use the key only and have not tried to remote start the truck? If you don't have problems with the key then the passlock bypass module is not telling the BCM that the key is there (basically it lies to the truck when it is working) so the truck doesn't start, it just turns over. Then, the BCM thinks the truck is being stolen so it shuts down the flow to the engine for 10 minutes.

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

I had this problem on my first 06 Colorado and the dealer replaced the ignition switch. I thought it was fixed at first but about a month later it started doing it again. The only reason they fixed it the first time is because I happened to be driving the truck and the passlock light came on so I went straight to the dealer and told I can't shut the truck off because the light would go off and I need them to get someone to look at it now. So a tech came up and looked at it and he shut the truck until he could take it in the shop to fix it. When he came to get the truck it would not start so he had to push it into the garage.

This sounds exactly right!! I dont have problems with just the key. So do I take it to the alarm shop that installed the remote start or the GM dealer? I remember they had to install a special passlock bypass thingy for new Colly's to get this system to work. They didnt have to do this for my husbands 2000 Silverado. Thanks so much!

Re: ANTI Theft keeps activating GM Passlock??

Actually the Silverado should have it too, but a different module. And yes I would take it back to the place you got it from and get them to change the bypass module. If they don't do it for free you could find the module on ebay for cheap.
