Fan control switch finally quit for good... how-to replace?

My fan control switch only works on the max #4 setting. For a few months now I could twist it back and forth quickly and it'd start working on all speeds again. Yesterday it quit for good and will only work on setting 4.

Behind the trim is the HVAC unit one complete part? Do I have to replace all of it, or is the fan control switch a seperate part? Anyone know? Anyone have pics of replacement?

Thanks,
Brian

all one unit, $100 from gmpartsdirect.com i'd get you the part # but the online catalog isn't working right for that part you'll have to call them or maybe a parts store might carry them

Thanks guys... I assume I have to pop off the plastic radio surroud piece... how do I pop that off w/o marring it? Small screw driver around the edges or are there screws somewhere?

Thanks,
Brian

Small screwdriver at one of the bottom corners and then work it off with your hands from bottom to top.

Yeah, I didn't even use a screw driver to pry mine off, Started at the bottom (above the power outlets) and then worked up the sides.

i dont think its your switch dude, i had the same problem. rplace your blower motor resistor and wiring harness, then there is a relay under the hood that came loose. mine works fine now

definately try the resistor first. it's cheaper and a known solution to the problem

I just bought the blower resister and will be replacing it tomorrow. I'll keep track of how I do it so that others can follow :p
