I can't get fuel in my tank

I can't get fuel to flow into my filler neck. Does anyone know specifically what is wrong?

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

push harder on the handle. you have to collapse the ribbed hose that is over the nozzle to work. make sure you are in the hole of the neck. make sure its gas and not diesel. not trying to make you sound stupid, thats just all i can think off.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

Can't get it to flow in at all, or can't get it to flow in well?

Right around 100K I had an EVAP solenoid go bad, and the result was a CEL and I could only put in about a half a gallon at a time before the pump nozzle would shut the pump off. Don't remember how much it was to replace, but I think it was right around $100 (including labor).

Gas cap off?

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does an oil change. It's a pity the ECU is so damn temperamental. -- Author Unknown

Dude, if the gas cap is the problem, move to OR or NJ. We have specialists here and it is their problem to get gas into the tank, not yours

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

I've had problems with the purge solenoid valve sticking. If it is stuck closed, when you take the gas cap off you will hear it suck air in, and have problems filling. Stuck open, you will get the gas cap message. If you think you can do it yourself, unhook it from the canister, blow air through it and give it a few good whacks on your hand until you hear the valve come loose. Good luck

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

Huh... I'll be damned. Mine is easy to fill but I do get the gascap error, replaced the cap twice, but I do noticed that if it's really cold out the gas cap warning doesn't come on. Also I do notice when I fill up the pump never kicks off and i get gas all over the place even when I pump slow so I'm all like WTF!!! I'm not sure what that means but I'll give it a try.

Make sure nothing is living in the filler neck. Check for CEL active/stored codes.. Solenoids fail..... How many miles on the truck?

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

almost 70K. I cleared the Last 0455 code before the first of the year and it still hasn't come up yet, however I did get a fuel cap warning when it warmed up here for like a day, but it didn't result in a check engine light like usual. I thought it only happens after it has gone past 3/4 of a tank but it does it above sometimes as well. I plan on blowing it out when I have better weather. It's like a 150 dollar part too. about 120 if I get it online through a wholesale dealer.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

If I remember correctly, the solenoid is by the canister and the purge valve is on the drivers side of the engine block, to the rear of the alternator.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

I thought it was next to the charcoal canister that is just behind the fuel tank and before the rear axle. It's more towards the center of the bed.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

Your still getting the trouble code?

After you clear the code does it reoccur with the problem each time?

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

body lift or stock??

any thought's on a roll-over check-ball/valve on the fill neck of the tank??
maybe stuck or sticking slowing the fill and allowing it to back up the fill pipe.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

Yeah, everytime I clear it it comes back within a day or so, tried blowing compressed air into the purge silenoid and smack it a few times with no luck. The code doesn't come up if the temp out is less than 20 degrees. Everything is stock except for the fuel cap but I had a new on on there and it didnt fix the problem.

Re: I can't get fuel in my tank

Now is the vent valve the purge valve right? Not the solenoid right? Purge Valve is $18 on gm parts direct and the solenoid is $90.
