Instrument Panel Stops Working Randomly

I have had this happen a couple of time. I am driving down the road and the whole instrument panel goes dead. The low fuel message comes across the information center and makes the ding sound like normal. If you kill the truck, open a door to kill the radio, and then restart, everything begins working again. Today, it happened again. This time, I noticed the A/C wasn't working while driving down the road. I thought it was a blown fuse or had a freon leak. Shortly after that, the instrument panel went dead again. I pulled over and turned off the truck and tried to reset everything. When I went to try and start it, it wouldn't even attempt to start. The truck had power, the radio came on, the dome light was on. I got out, shut the door, locked it with the keyless entry and unlocked it. Got it and it started right up, the instrument panel worked again, and the A/C started working again. Any ideas what is causing this? I would love to get this fixed before whatever it is goes completely out and I am stuck on the side of the road!

I have 06 Colorado 3.5L Z71. If any of that helps. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer!

I had this exact same thing happend to me, I had installed an aftermarket radio 3 mons prior to the incident, I had loose connections at the radio harness that caused all this, I ended up soldering the connections and it never happened again.

That may be it, I know I have had to reset the radio in the past due to it powering off. I just chalked it up to overly sensitive safety features because it has only done it in the winter when its been cold outside. I wouldn't have ever thought a radio would have anything to do with speedometer and A/C.

HU and A/C are run through the BCM. If the BCM get odd voltages (spikes or drops) it will make the instrument cluster act wierd.

Double check any stereo wires if you installed an aftermarket HU and check the battery terminals to make sure they are tight. If all checks out, have the battery load tested. A bad battery can cause the same problems.

Well...same truck (2006 3.5L I5) and this happened to me on way to work this past week. Driving along & heard warning chimes, looked down & all gauges not registering, Low-Fuel scrolling & battery idiot light illuminated. Everything's running fine & drove fine the next 3-miles to work. Shut truck down, open hood and looked at grounds/cables...all clean/tight. Tried to start & "nothing." Lights all come on, turn ignition & no crank/no click/no nothing. Get back out & look under hood again...go inside & truck starts/runs fine. Hasn't happened since & have it at shop now. They called three times yesterday asking questions, but are baffled...so am I.

What gives???
