I have an '08 4wd Colorado with the 3.7L I5 motor and automatic transmission. I took it in to a dealer to have the transmission fluid and filter changed at about 49,000 mi. As soon as I got in my truck to drive it off of the lot after the service I noticed a new rattling noise. The noise is only audible below 1000 rpm (idle) and it will sound in P, R, N, D, etc. Did the mechanic leave a fastener loose? If so, which? If not, what could it be. The sound was not there before the service. Any ideas? Thanks for your consideration.

Take it back to your dealer? We can't see if they left anything unfastened.
Either that, or start it up and crawl around under it looking for the rattle yourself. Just make sure it's in park, and the parking brake applied before you get under it. |

@08Canyon, I just felt like taking the truck back could cause even more problems. Sometimes, you just don't know who's working on your transpo. BTW, thanks for that tip about using the parking brake and being underneath the truck and all. I hate it when that happens! I guess that by posting here I was hoping the Tappet Brothers secretly perused this forum.
Really though, I guess I was just hoping someone familiar with the service procedure and mechanics could identify a culprit (e.g. swarf magnet in the base of the fluid pan). I have listened at various places outside of the truck but the sound is loudest through the floorboard in the cab. Whatever it is I'm sure I'll have to take my truck somewhere and have it redone or redo the service myself if I want to get to the bottom of things. I just hope that it's nothing too serious in the meantime... |

I'm pretty sure that you'll have better luck at the dealer with people who can actually see/hear a problem instead of us, just people who see nothing but text.
People seem to hate the dealer/shops, but I don't know why. Sure it's sometimes difficult to get a resolution but at the end of the day they are really the people who know them very well as that is all they do every day. I'd tell the service writer that you want to physically witness somebody working on it so you know they actually tried to duplicate the problem. Not all problems can be found. I had a noise on a truck many years ago, went unsolved. There are a lot of things on a vehicle, go figure. And I'm not sure why people seem to think a dealer is going to 'further damage' a vehicle that went in for service. |
