air bag idiot light staying on

having problem with air bag light coming on and staying lit
at times. made appt. with selling dealer but by the time I
got truck in light had gone out. they checked found nothing.
since I left dealer, light has come back on and off at times.
I have an open service time should light come on and stay
on and I'm close to dealer they said to bring it in, but it
never seems to be on when I'm in the area. anyone else
experience this condition ?

have not experenced it- but. When that light is on you do not have airbag protection. Have you put any modifications on that you may have disturbed a connection?
Do not wait on this condition!!

They should be able to troubleshoot the issue. I would think it would set a code in the computer. If not they could at least check for loose connections and chaffed wiring.

I agree with Ken, they should be able to check the codes in the computer, if the idiot light is on, there should be a code stored in there, assuming you haven't disconnected the battery recently. Next time it comes on, take it in and have them scan the codes, regardless of whether or not the light is still on when you get there.

Had the same problem with my '05. Light came on at 200 miles. Took it in. Couldnt find anything so they "reset the computer" and shut the light off. Light came on again the next day. Went back in with the light on, they hooked it up and actually got a code this time! They replaced what they called a "clock spring". Something that carries voltage in the steering wheel. 1000 miles since and the light is still off! knock on wood!

I had that problem a month ago. They replaced my wiring harness to the airbag. It took a couple of weeks becuase that part is on back order. Mine would go on 5 mins after driving then turn off after about 20 mins. They replaced these parts 15130066 Harness and 15134117 Modual AB

My airbag lite has come on twice in the year that I have had my truck. First time was when I was giving it hell and shifting gears manually (automatic tranny) and over-revved it a bit. It reset when I shut the truck off and restarted it. The second time was quite a bit later (weeks). I just stood on it and let it wind itself out and shift on its own. It shifted from 1st to 2nd passing thru and the airbag lite came on. Again, it reset when the truck was shut off. I've romped it several times since then with no light.

To all,

Just want to thank you guys for bringing this topic to attention, I remember reading it awhile back, and lucky for me my airbag light is staying on as of yesterday!!..damnit. I will bring in the service bulletin today and let them have a peek(in Canada they don't get the same bulletins for some reason).

Thanks again!

Exactly the same scenario for me but it only has happened once - two days ago. I let it wind out in first and then second and the light came on and stayed on until I made a stop for some beer. When I started it back up, the light didn't come back on. I'm going to try and wind it out again tonight on my way home and see if it happens again. Since I pass the dealer on the way home, maybe I'll get lucky and be able to drive it in there with the light on.

So i took mine to the dealer and it is the harness, in fact on my paperwork it said that all wires had been cut, which I find strange, but whatever. In any event..part on backorder from the US...so I wait!! Oh, it threw the codes B00065 and B00066.

Cheers!

Re: air bag idiot light staying on

my light starting comming on eraticly last spring but would only stay on for short periods of time until just recently. I found that the wires going to the connector under the passenger seat had gotten tangeled in the adjusting spring under seat and worked loose until it adventually came discontected completly. I re-connected wires and problem solved.

Re: air bag idiot light staying on

Mine came on about a week ago. Was all set to take it to the dealer to have the code read. Did a search on this site and found a few people with the same problem. Turns out on mine the harness between the cab and the extended cab door flexes enough to break the wires. Spliced new wires in, no more light.

Re: air bag idiot light staying on

Just wanted to share that I had the same problem, it threw codes B0065 and B0066, and it ended up being one of the wires inside the rubber protector going between the drivers side third door and the body. I replaced the wire and it is working great!

Air Bag Light on 2nd Time

First I would like to thank previous posters for pointing me in the right direction in analyzing this problem. I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado Extended Cab. About a year ago the air bag light came on and by reading this thread I was able to track it down to two broken wires in the boot between the driver side rear door and the cab. I replaced the two wires and the light went off immediately. Then about 2 weeks ago the air bag light came back on. I rechecked the wires I had replaced and all the wires were still good in the driver side rear door. Then I went to the passenger side rear door and removed the boot. Five of the six wires in that boot were broken. The insulation on the sixth wire was cracked and it was about to break. I cut and replaced all six wires and the air bag light went out and stayed out. I like my truck but the electrical system as a whole is very poor.

I had a similar problem. Mine turned out to be the clock spring in the steering wheel.
