How to have radio turn off...

Well, I am trying to find a way to have my radio turn off when I open the door. Right now, it will only turn off when I push the on/off button. Sorry if this has been answered a million times, but I looked around and did a search and couldn't find out anything. Thanks...

Dan

I wouldn't say that was normal. My radio turns off if the key's out and I open the door. I'd get the dealer to look at that.

I just thought of something. It will turn off when the passenger door is opened, but not when the drivers door is opened. Maybe I will look at the latch and everything when I get out there...

Try pressing that little knob in the doorframe. On my Ext cab, it's just in front of the swing door on the bottom.

Well, I tried playing with the little white knob, and it didn't help. I know for a fact that the passenger door will turn off the radio, but the drivers side won't. I guess back to the dealership...

It has to be the switch in the door. Should be a simple fix for the dealership.

Does your dome light come on when you open the door? If the light comes on then it's not the switch.

Yes, the light comes on. And after messing around with anything door related, it still doesn't do it. Another thing that I thought of, the last time I got out of my truck, the wipers still worked when the truck was turned off and the key was out. Seems like nothing is turning off when I get out of the drivers door...

May just need to have the bcm flashed. That's the only other thing I can think of. The bcm controls all that stuff.

What white knob? The one in mine is black and it's more of a push button.

Then I would take it to the dealer. Sounds like a probelm with the BCM like Danny said.

Re: How to have radio turn off...

Back from the dead!

I am having the same problem with my 04 Colorado. When I open the drivers side door nothing shuts off. When I open the passenger door everything will shut off.

I thought it was the door jamb switch so I took the switch from the passenger side and put it on the drivers side door and the drivers side switch and put it on the passenger side door. I still have the same problem!

I am thinking maybe one or both of the 2 wires on the harness going to the switch on the drivers side is cut somewhere??? Any suggestions???

Re: How to have radio turn off...

Since you have an '04 truck, your door sill plate should be plastic. Carefully pull it up and remove it, its only held on with clips. Lift the carpet and you should see a wiring harness running along the inside edge of the door opening. Look for a gray/black wire and a white/black wire. These two wires go to the drivers side door jamb switch. Get your hands on a digital multimeter and set it to 'continuity'. With the door open, carefully pierce the gray/black wire with one probe and the white/black wire with the other. If the switch is good you get a beep. If no beep than you have a break in one or both wires. The gray black wire connects the switch to the BCM. The white/black wire goes to ground. When the door is open (switch closed) this completes the ground circuit from the BCM. The BCM then turns on the dome light. If the door isn't closed tight, the switch is sgain closed and the BCM gives you the 'Door Ajar' message in the DIC.

ANother check you can do is pierce the white/black wire with one probe and put the other probe on a good ground. With the DMM on continuity you should hear the beep. If so the black/white wire to ground is good. If no beep, the wire to ground has an open.

I also included the link to the wiring schematic.

Pretty late reply to a pretty old post...but I had the same issue and found that the Gy/Bk wire in the ext cab rear door (Left Front Door Ajar Switch) was broke in the rubber boot that "protects' the wires going from the door to the chassis..Anyway, the harness has part # 15112061 on the label, but will splice the gy/bk wire and all is well.
