Default How do you replace the brake light switch?

I could not find this info on the form, so sorry if it is a repeat, but how do you replace the brake light switch? Where is it located? I got the part, I just do not know where it is on the truck. I have a 2004 Chevy Colorado. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see the two switches at the peddle, but the part I got does not look like that. Those are round. I went to the Chevy Dealer and asked for the brake light switch and it is square and has a socket connector with flat metal prongs. Did they give me the wrong part?

The problem I am having is that my hazards work, my parking lights work, and my blinkers work, but my brakes lights (including the third brake light and cruse control) do not work. I have tested all the bulbs and fuses and they are good. So I thought it was the brake light switch. I was going to replace it my self, but I might have gotten the wrong part.

it is possible they gave u the wrong part, it would not be the first time.

it is a 2 wire connector, colors should be lt.blue and orange for the wires.

if your fuses and bulbs are good the switch should be the problem. the switch going bad is pretty common.

I take it you are out of warranty?

There are 2 identical switches one is traction control the other is the brake light switch.

I am having the same problem with a 2005 Z78, first notice the cruse control first, at around 8000 miles, took it to the dealer for the 9000 miles check up, but they did not fixed it, then day before yesterday I notice the brake lights, been driving for 1200 with out brake light and the dealer did not checked them went I took it in, I am taking back to the dearler tomorrow morning and I will give them a peace of my mind.

Default Yes :)

Yes I am out of warranty, but not a big dealership fan either. I found out it was a wrong part. They gave me a part for a Silverado not a Colorado. :)

Once I had the right part, I was good to go. All is working well now.

Thanks for all the info Spoolin Ex.
