The 'WoW' was simply the reaction to learning Mercedes is simply re-badging a fricken Nissan.
Until I read your post, I would've thought Mercedes was smarter than that, and may have even looked at one down the road-with Mercedes offering so many of their vehicles with diesel motors.

Well the new Nissan Navera platform is pretty decent. It's not the continued Frontier we have. Since Mercedes doesn't have a midsized body on frame truck platform at the moment it makes sense to take an existing well suited platform and it will be much different than the Nissan offering. Renault also shares the design with Nissan.
Not to mention it will have Mercedes offerings of engines that would be well suited.

I don't see any problem with taking the building blocks form Nissan, saves Mercedes a lot of money and time to bring the vehicle to market. Also helps dissporve anxiety of a brand new offering from a maker that doesn't currently have a similar vehicle in the market.
