Whenever I see concepts with winches in the front grilles all lifted and mudder tires I start laughing now......

Concept comes out looking like:

Then is mass produced like:
Renthal, apwoodr, lqdchkn and 3 others like this.

Another "love it or hate it" look for a maker delving into the lucrative truck market...

I wonder if they are going to put the 3.0 diesel that is currently in the Sprinter class van? 188 hp with 325 lb-ft. with a five-speed automatic gearbox. Can't imagine they would put the smaller diesel in these, not citing those payload/tow numbers anyways...

(2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter - Specifications, Pictures, Prices)

Not sure how they think that would pull 7700lbs. Maybe because it's lighter than the van? Regardless, it will probably be up above Denali pricing so even if they do import it, you probably won't see too many.

The concepts look pretty cool to me.

Though they will certainly suck out some of the cool before going into production, they should still come out looking alright.

If the vehicle does ever come to North America, it will likely be with lower payload ratings.

that looks like a pretty tiny bed. I don't think you would be carrying a stack of 4x8 drywall or plywood in that thing!

If it's built in Spain, it won't ever come to the US so long as the chicken tax is in place.

I heard about this a while ago. I was interested until I found out it's not really a Mercedes. It's a crappy Nissan. A product of "badge engineering". Stuffing wood and leather in a turd doesn't change what it is. You're driving a grill.

I think you're right. I'm not sure they would bother to set up a plant in North America, just to sell a badge engineered truck here.

Bit like some of the ZR2 prototypes.

Amazing, they are using body on frame, I thought that Unibody was the wave of the future.

I am a little surprised how & maybe why you build a 2400 pound payload into a midsize truck.

I think the price of a Mercedes badge would really cut into the sales volume. Let's face it, according to all the comments comparing the FS to the MS trucks, we are a cheap bunch of truckers. If Nissan was going to also supply their distribution channel, then maybe they could get volume up to a point where it justified the US manufacturing at least.

Back to the competition is good - we all benefit. Even if it doesn't make it to the US market, it competes internationally with the international Colorado & Toyota Hilux, etc. and as it drives that competition, that migrates over to the US.

What's the matter Yokev, you don't like that post? I have seen a lot of badge engineered cars in my time and they were always the worst. I've always seen Mercedes cars as very solidly built. Not Nissan, AKA Datsun. It could be a great truck but, it speaks of cheapness that a company like MB can't come up with their own ground up design. Maybe they can't handle body on frame construction in their factories.

I'm sure it would run $50k in the US for a niche market. VW has the Amorak, and I'm sure BMW will be watching closely too.

What I don't get is why some manufacturers stick the display screen on the dash like some tablet glued on afterthought? It looks ridiculous.

Interesting tailgate - a whole new set of tests by Mythbusters to prove that the drag is increased with this type of tailgate.

I've read up a bit on this as it looks very interesting and nice to see more competition.

So yes it's based off the Nissan Navera, what the Frontier is based off, but split design a couple years ago. If they do use quite a bit of the chassis and base of the Navera it would certainly be a capable truck and having 4 wheel independent suspension would be nice, would be very interesting to see such high capabilities with.
Mercedes to us in North America are more of a luxury car make but in Europe and other parts of the world they make affordable very capable working vehicles and have been for a long time. We see a glimpse of this with the sprinter and metris. They definitely have the pedigree of strong, durable, off road monsters (unimog).
I saw they also mentioned that it would most likely be offered with a few different engines including the diesel from vans as well as a possible smaller diesel.

Remember though that these are concepts, and they purposefully went two different directions with them, comfortable luxury on road and durable extreme off road, to show the potential versatility. The language of the design looks very cool imo.

Would definitely be nice to see more midsize diesels.

I like it! Love the looks. It is a concept so I hope the production model does not deviate much from it... we will see... and nothing wrong with using Nissan underpinnings... I never had an issue with my Pathfinder (Sister-in-law's Pathfinder had the transmission replaced...these were common and covered under warranty for those within the mileage limits, that is the only major issue that I can recall with these...) and the Frontier is still being sold and, with 10 years under its belt, still being compared to the new offerings and still showing some positive reviews (besides the being dated comments).

I know that for many, a truck is a working tool. For others, like me, I want the luxury that I find in some high-ends SUVs, inside a truck cabin, along with some off-road capabilities... best of both worlds.

Now, will it pull me away from a Canyon Diesel, not sure... but the concept, in this form, sure looks great...

The other one that I am waiting to see is the production version of the Colorado ZR2 Concept... I never liked the Chevy badge in the front grill, I prefer the GMC looks... plus I like the interior details/finishes on the GMC as well. But if this ZR2 is close to the concept, ohhhh boy!

Drive safe!
