Thumbs up 2016 Silverado Revealed

Saw this on another forum; Chevrolet revealed the 2016 Silverado today. I had just about made up my mind to order a 2016 Colorado Z71, but after seeing this press release, I'm rethinking my decision. IMHO, the updated Silverado front end takes some of its styling cues from the Colorado. I like the LED's and the availability of an 8-speed transmission. Opinions on the new look?

Here's the the text from the press release:

2016 Silverado: The New Face of Strong

July 13, 2015

  • Bolder, more sculpted look reflects Silverado strength, dependability
  • Available support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Expanded use of 8-speed transmissions; additional safety technologies

DETROIT – Chevy Trucks are on a roll, with Chevrolet pickup sales up 32 percent so far this year. Chevrolet intends to strengthen this momentum with significant updates for the 2016 Silverado 1500 full-size pickup.

“The redesigned 2016 Silverado will build on Chevy Trucks’ legacy of dependability. It will feature a more muscular appearance and offer new customer-focused technologies,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks.

“New front end designs with bold horizontal elements, sculpted hoods and dramatic lighting reflect the strength and refinement that have helped make Silverado the fastest growing full-size pickup brand this year.”

Other changes for 2016 will include expanded use of 8-speed automatic transmissions, updated Chevy MyLink with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and additional safety technologies.

The redesign of the 2016 Silverado 1500 is part of an aggressive strategy to build on Chevy Trucks’ momentum.

Since the introduction of the all-new Silverado 1500 in the spring of 2013, Silverado sales have grown by double digits, on a percentage basis, each year. Through June of this year, Silverado sales are up 14.6 percent. Chevrolet also sold 41,575 midsize Colorados during the same period.

More product details will be available this fall, closer to the public debut of the redesigned 2016 Silverado 1500.

Looks better to me than the 2015 Silverados, I still prefer the looks of the Colorado, but to each their own...

It does look very nice. That color doesn't hurt either. Maybe if I get tired of my Canyon. Maybe not.

I don't mind the current or new front end, just wish the beltline wasn't so tall on these trucks.

The 15 front end looked good in a classic old school way however the square wheel wells always made the truck look some how off unless u put the biggest tire rim combo on the truck. The new front does have a passing resemblance to the Colorado ,it's rare that a full size truck tries to emulate the look of a smaller truck usually it's the reverse.

I'm not loving that particular picture.....I'd like to see it with some black in the grille or a touch of chrome (not too much chrome).

I do like the overall shape, though. It's just that I'm not into the body-colored grille.

Why does GM still use whip antennas by the hood? Seems pretty antiquated.

The little shark fin by the driver side is typically the antenna... At least in my Acura it is... lol Almost looks like a mistake in the picture.

I wouldn't say it looks more muscular than the 2015.
To me, they both look just as good in different ways.
However, they way they worded the 8speed info implies that'll be package add-on or some such, not standard.
Any confirmation on that?
If I bought the truck, I probably wouldn't get the shmanciest package.

GM uses the fin for OnStar I believe.

It looks a little like the Colorado to me. I actually like the 2015 headlights better.
