Nova,

Thanks for reading, I know it's long for a post, But I intend to add pictures and diagrams that will help a bit. It's intened to be step by step for anyone to be able to follow.

Odie,
Do you mean the size of the hole in the housing that needs cut? Not sure what you want there?

The bulb is 8" wide x 5" high. From the bulb to the rear of the housing is 5 1/2" deep.
The Bumper Housing cutout is smaller than the bulb itself.

(Sorry I haven't responded in a while... been a little preoccupied by the onslaught we're taking down here in the "sunshine" state.)

As for your instructions post... looks good! It seems to be a lot more involved than I anticipated, but no doubt cheaper than having the dealer install it. Pictures will definitely help. Perhaps you could also list where you got each part and for how much $.

A deer ran out in front of me last night and I bright lighted to get a better look. Throwing my brights on killed my fogs. Is this normal? If so, did you wire yours to do the same?

Yes, that is done by LAW.
In most if not all states, it is illegal to have fog lights on with high beam head lights.
The Logic on the the Fog Lamps is:
On if:
1. Ignition on, Fog Lamp switch on & park lamp switch on.
2. Ignition on, Fog Lamp switch on & head lamp switch on with low beam selected.
3. Ignition on, Fog Lamp switch on & light sensor low light condition on with low beam selected.

They will be off when any of these change.
1. Fog Lamp switch is off.
2. Ignition off.
3. High Beam is selected.

What's weird is that on the '05 Canyon, the fog lights *are* an accessory on the Z85 and is available without the Color Keyed Appearance Package. You also get a leather wrapped wheel outside of this package on the Canyon. I wonder who dreams up these packages?

Did you find that on Gmbuypower? It maybe a mistake. Lat I checked the '05 online order guide it was still the same as last year.

But if they changed it maybe because we bitched enough!

Yeah that's it they made it available because I called and told them they were idiots and should make it available. :

Yes, it was GM BuyPower alright. GMC also fails to mention the "center console with storage and armrest" with the bucket seats, which must be an error as well. Yeah, it's nuts. I want metallic paint, so can't get the Appearance Package and its features. An auto parts store can supply me with a leather kit for the steering wheel, but as we know from the discussion here, factory fog lighte are another matter ....

After having the installation behind me and figuring out all the details, I'd now say it is a very easy installation.

I posted this elsewhere, but will here as well.
I have not yet verified the pinouts on the 2005 model. I doubt they have changed the pin outs, but I do know that according to the service manual they've added a new fuse location for the sunroof.
That would be on a different terminal underneath the fusepanel since it is on the harness going to the cab.

I am going to customize mine a bit though. I do NOT like the fact that the factory shuts them off with highbeams so I am not going to do the harness pinout thing I am going to mount the FACTORY ones and wire into a factory switch with the option. Then I can do what I want and if the factory switch wont do what I want then I will use a mini switch and wire it that way.

dcjredline,

If you want to do it like that don't waste your money on buying a factory switch for the fog lamps.
It does not directly switch the fog lamps, it tells the BCM to give the fog lamps voltage. It may sound odd, but there is a difference.

You should have no trouble just adding a rocket switch type setup. I just wanted the factory functionality and look.

OK, I'm finally going to get started on this mod.

Ken, are any of the parts different between the Crew Cab and Ext. Cab? (such as the switch module or wiring harness)

And regarding the above post by SlayerD, I assume the right and left fog light assemblies are the same? (site says RH=LH)

gr8 c8r,

did you ever add them?

How about anyone else?

In looking at the new option packages I think it's now possible to get them in the one lt package.

I did it earlier this year. I bought the oem harness, relay, lamps and switch. Then just ran the wiring from the switch to the BCM. I checked with the dealer before I wired em up and in all there vast knowlage told me all BCM's were coded for the lights so no flash was needed.
