Autozone and Advance Auto Parts check codes for free?

I've heard that I can take my truck to autozone or advance auto parts and I can get them to check my engine vehicle for any codes its throwing for free. I've been having some issues where my engine is hesitating and even stalling at times. Especially after I slow down to stop. I would hope this would be covered under warranty but the thing is, my dealership charges me $70 right off the bat to scan for codes. I'd rather just have them checked for free (If this is true) then to go through all the crap and b.s.

Those scanners suck! I had them check my monte carlo and said I need $250 worth of parts!!! So I bought my own laptop scanner called the auto enginuity..... turned out all I need too do was clean out the egr valve!!!

That thing has paid for it self x10!!!

Yea just go to VatoZone and have them scan it but don't listen to what they recommend you lol. Just write down the code and be on your way. Post it up here. Let us know what it is and we can help you decide on what to do next. Most likely a visit to the dealer is in order but make sure you don't have a self inflicted code like an Evap code.
