The temp guage for our trucks isn't accurate. If you could lay your hands on a digital/laser thermometer you could check the upper radiator hose.
Are you getting good heat?

pick yourself us a ScanGaugeII. It reads the actual temp out of the PCM.

Sometimes a low temp means the thermostat is stuck open, but since you are getting good heat you are good to go.

As far as I know, only the xtreme clusters show temp gauges at half. All the other regular clusters are at a 1/4. Mine was like this too, and when I put in my xtreme cluster, it went to half. Weird GM engineering I guess.

My original 2005 cluster read a tic below half. The one I have in now reads at one quarter. It's worthless to compare across trucks - only tells you when something is wrong with your truck.

Yeah mine reads around 1/4 to just above it when I'm just sitting idle. I love these engines ability to get to temperature quick because they are all aluminum. Usually takes about 3 or so minutes of driving for it to heat up. I'm just glad to have actual heat comming out of my vents, my 20 year old acclaim only puts out cool air.
