i 4 oil trouble - Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon

Default i 4 oil trouble

i just bought a 05 colorado with 48000 miles and it used almost a gallon of oil in 300 miles , now its got no oil leaks or smoking not even scum on the tailgate any ideas

You'd be smoking like the space shuttle if it was going through the combustion chambers. You'd have oil all over the engine or on your driveway if it was leaking. Are you sure it was full when you got it? Did you pull the stick, wipe it off, and fully seat it again to check the oil? Are you checking the dipstick in good light - they are notoriously hard to read, especially with clean oil.

Better check your coolant just to be sure there isn't oil in there.

nothing in the coolant and yes it was full i made shure of that when i serviced it last the only thing i found is the tail pipe is black and sooty , its my 2nd colorado and yes the dip stick is hard to read im going for a 6 hr drive tomorrow and am takin some extra oil for the trip ill check it again getin frustrated thanks for the input
