No low drive or park!

Automatic trans. So I went to shift to low drive today and the transmission refused to go from D to 3. After realizing that it wasn't going to happen I went to put it into park. Shifter shifts all the way up into park position but my dash only says its shifting to reverse or between park and reverse. Engine will turn off in this position but not on, only when it is in neutral. When it's in this park-reverse position I can still push the truck as if its in neutral and it still drives just fine when in drive

Is this a transmission problem or a shift problem?

Check the shift cable connection on the left side of the transmission. You may have to remove the heat shield to get a closer look.
