All diesels are dirty. That's why they cheat.

Meanwhile, in the rest of the world, gas and diesel engines spew out the same gross amount of emissions in effect making the cheatings diesels in the US look like upscale air purifiers...

The story is written much different than VW. This appears to be more non compliance rather than cheating.

Give it a few days to completely fall of the radar.

No, they cheat to save money. VW was able to leave out the blue fluid system by cheating, which lowered the cost of the vehicles. Competitors couldn't figure out how to meet the standard without it, so had to include it.

Legaly is not a cheat. They were submited to a test they all passed. Put it this way, you take a math test, you pass the test, you get accused on using a calaculator. Never was said about using a calculator. Is that cheating?

The EPA test is bullcrap, is based on using the ODB2 port and a "scanner". The EPA always knew about it. The requirement is to pass the test. CARB and the EPA cabal are setting unattainable goals. Is nothing more than the great Global Warming Taxation scam. VW and FC prooved the test is nothing more than bureaucratic bullcrap.

Cap and Trade is another scam. If the goal is to stop polluting, cap, no trade.

Is all more about extortion money than anything else.

That's just not true. The test must be passed legitimately. It is illegal to add devices to a vehicle which defeat emissions control equipment. Here is a link to the applicable laws in the VW case:

https://www.epa.gov/vw/laws-and-regu...gen-violations

Most diesel vehicles are able to meet the standards. We haven't read anything indicating that the Colorado/Canyon diesels do not meet the standard and I don't expect we will.

What is the EPA definition of a device? There is no emission control equipmemt, is the car's PCM/ECM doing the readouts. Most of the people that write regulations have no clue about the matter. A question that always comes to mind. How low emissions can be? If the answer is 0 that os pretty much near impossible. Another thing that makes me wonder is CO2 but never mention CO that is way more deadly.

Let us face.... the US is going to a financial/currency debacle and every bit of tax/fees/fines are welcome.

The witch hunt continues...

Renault is next

VW demonatrated the test is BS, just a bureaucratic requirement. This open a can of worms at a global scale. Other nations are opening investigations; a form of retaliation.

Your second link pertains to enforecement of a local ordinance. It has nothing to do with the EPA or the topic of this thread.

I think the US has something against diesels! They are the prominent engine in many of the same vehicles all over the world, but here they seem really hard to get into the country. I'd like to see some of the diesel offerings sold in other countries become available here, but not sure that will ever happen.
