I have 2in shackles and I looked up what part number I need for 2in of lift and came up with RS5301,but It was my understanding that I should use RS5325 shocks. I know both will work but I want to know which ones would be better for my z85

I just bought the RS5375 of the front and RS5301 for the rear. That is according to Rancho's website for a 2 inch lift. If you go to gorancho.com and input your data you can look at all of the part numbers. I have a Z85 4x4 as well

Thats what I did but if that is the case then why would people be using the rs5325 instead of what is recommended which is the rs5301.

They don't want to listen to anyone. I honestly have no idea where they would get that shock information anyway. Any of the shops I was going to to try to find them (since they were on backorder when I needed them) were all saying 5375 for the front and 5301 for the front. Nobody said anything different so I have no idea where they are getting that part number

On the rancho site the 5301's are recommended for a 1-2.5" lift. The 5325's are recommended for a 4" lift. This is a bit misleading since the 4" lift really only raises the back end by about 2.75". So what do they mean by a 1-2.5" lift?
If you look up the specs the 5301 vs the 5325 is (14.71" vs 14.94", 23.00 vs 23.92", 8.29" vs 8.98") this is with regards to (compressed length extension length, travel). This equates to the 5325 having a difference of 0.23" in extra length when compressed, 0.92" in lenght at full extension and 0.69" of extra travel. Given the fact that these specs are very close and there is way more chance of over extending a shock especially wheeling. I would go with the 5325's. I install an add-a-leaf (skyjacker) which raised the truck about 2.5" in the back and I went with the 5325's. No issues. My truck is Z71, which I'm pretty sure is the same suspension as the Z85 just with differnent shocks. |
