Cheap eBay tuners?

Anybody ever purchase one of these cheap eBay tuners? I found one here for $20. Wondering if this is a scam or if they actually work.

Low priced resistor only for $20.00

The typical idea here is to take the air intake temperature sensor and "adjust/modify/trim" it. If the computer thinks the intake temperature is colder then it will add more fuel / run richer and give fake more horsepower. If the temperature is trimmed to be warmer it will reduce fuel and run leaner and fake better fuel economy. They are usually not a chip but a resistor with some epoxy covering to hid its value, some are even two resistors, some real expensive units will give you a long wire length and a variable resistor (potentiometer) that you can mount on your dash and "dial in" your performance. I don't choose to add my opinion here, your can form your own. I don't own one of these devices, my knowledge comes from taking them apart for my car club because we really wanted to know ! Now you do !

Do not buy any type of plug in 'chip' that promises results.

You are more likely to cause problems, not performance. Maybe some vehicles work well with a chip, but not these.

It is your $20 though. It is highly unlikely a $20 internet chip, and 10 minutes of your time is going to increase your power by 35 hp. A $300 replacement cold air intake system can't even make that much power, and they are advertised all day long.

Do not press buy now, and close that page!

an actual tune.

Someone with a laptop and either HPTuners or EFI Live who will download your stock program file, make the adjustments and then upload the new file.

A handheld tuner like Diablosport tuner comes with preloaded tunes and allows you to do some adjustments. If you want to have infinite control over your truck, go with a real tune or mail order tune.
