I live in SoCal as well. I've been considering LAPD err EC_TUNE but hard to muster up $650. I have done the research and strongly agree with Hannibal because the darn thing is not that user friendly and I don't feel I am ready to take that challenge...yet. The files are coded to the vin so you can't use someone elses tune file either. First and foremost I just wanna get rid of the limiter which is fairly simple and there are threads out there that show you where to go. If someone has the tuner unlocked for make/model then they could make some decent money simply removing the limiter for folks and slowly make thier $$$ back all the while starting a side hobby figuring the rest of the tables out which might take the average enthusiast quite some time. So I am right in the middle on this one. I might purchase the tuner/credits and still have my truck dialed in for $650 as my truck will get what it needs NOW and I can probe for some insight while at the shop when they are doing it. I have a budy at A'PEX in Anaheim who will do base 3 pass dynos for $75 so I am weighing my options seriously. But damnit that limiter has to go!!!

I never found it that difficult to use.... everything is explained and if you know what does what when you change that specific peramiter you'll be fine. I've spent an equal amount of time on google getting a basic understanding of the terms and so far everyone who i've tuned has been pleased with the results for their $$$. I charge just enough to make a little extra $$ to cover the cost of the tuner plus the nessecary credits. I've done 8 trucks now and i've got about 2-4 more this weekend i'll be tuning. With the experience i've had just playing around with my truck i'm able to make these other trucks run very similar.

But bottom line... if you've got the time to spend into understanding it theres enough info available to have a lot of fun with it yourself and still be safe. HPtuners program is definitly worth it and you really get a good understanding of how your vehicle works. :)

That's good to hear. I think it's definately an opportunity to learn more about my truck. Like I said, I already know how to remove the limiter, it's just the MAF, VE, and such that I need some education in. Time to start the piggy bank again!

No not yet, both are still quite a drive from SoCal...I would be surprised if no one in LA/Orange/Riverside/San Diego don't have one.
