I went on Ebay and looked for GM vehicle horns. There are hi and low note horns. I forget which the Colorado has, but I bought one from a 2002 Impala like new, and spliced it into the existing horn wiring.
Yes, you can just splice an extra horn in. I've been using is that way for over 6 years now.
I actually bought a "pair" of used GM horns and used the one that was the different horn note than what the Colorado has stock and spliced it in.
Just make sure you make good connections, weather tight. Soldering would be best or also buy another new connector what would connect to both horns. Sometimes in Ebay, you will find GM horns listed with the connectors still attached but cut off. Easy then to cut off the original and then splice in the other.
I did the same thing probably 10 years ago. I went to a junk yard and bought a pair of horns off of something for $5.00. I tested them in the parking lot on my truck by temporarily wiring them across the battery to make sure that I had a low and a high one.
Then I took them hone and mounted them in front of the radiator and wired them to the existing horn wire. Just make sure you have one low and one high tone one.
I agree that OEM horn is very anemic.
