When will the 2018's start showing up?

I'm planning to buy a 2017 Colorado this fall, hoping to take advantage of any end of the year incentives or discounts that GM may offer as they are looking to clear out inventory to make room for the 2018's. Does anyone have a feel for when that transition may occur? Am I looking at November/December before the 2018's start coming, or will they be available earlier than that?

I would take a month off that. This last year was later release for the NMY but usually ordering starts around Oct/Nov

At this point it would only be speculation, keep an eye out through the summer for any announcements.

They go into production early July and will show up late July early August from what GM informed me.

I do not anticipate much in changes other than colors and a wider availability of the wireless charging option.

Also the Denali and ZR2 will be more widely available as they open up more allocations. Both will be sold as regular production models.

What are you waiting for I just went to the local dealer and bought one.

Getting a Denali like I wanted was not hard since about everything on the lot is CC and V6. But colors can be a challenge. I just got lucky the dealer near me had the color I wanted. Also it was marked down more than only one other I have found any where in the country. This was one of the only times I found what I wanted near by. I would rather be lucky than good.

Once you get it you will find it worth the wait. Enjoy! :grin2:

I'm looking to buy a 2017, not ordering a 2018. I want to take advantage of any incentives/offers that they may have as they try to clear out the 2017 stock before the 2018's show up. For instance, last year they were offering 0% financing on the remaining 2016 models. That's what I'm hoping to find this year.

Sorry I misread your question but, my timeline pretty much still answers it. Expect the 2018s to start hitting the dealers in mid to late Oct/early November, which is when the 2017s will be considered as leftovers. :grin2:

Not sure about in your part of the country, but here in north New Jersey, there is no such thing as 'clearing out their inventory' since no dealer has more than 1 in stock at any given time....and its quite common to see a dealer with none for a week at a time. Either they can't keep them in stock or they have a low allotment.

Thus there really is no reason in these parts for much of a dealer-based incentive for the buyers. So any incentives would be strictly from GM which if I recall, happens around late September as 'end of year clearance sales'....and those rebates typically never include the Colorados.

We don't have that problem here in Denver. I just did a search for new Colorado's within 20 miles of my office (on cars.com) and it came up with 206 currently for sale on dealer lots. Plenty of inventory in the area, so I'm hoping that translates to some good deals this fall.

Again the new 2018 will be at dealers in late July and August as the change over is early July.

It will not be late this year like last year in Nov. 2017 was a short production year due to the new engine and transmissions.

They will offer discounts but you have to pick from what is left. Dealers can trade to help. Most of the good stuff will be gone by August unless you are ok with a Extended cab that may not have all the options or a crew long that may not have everything you may want.

Note some areas like mine there are few on dealers lots and they do not last long in the CC SB. Other areas some dealers are loaded up and then a few have over 100 trucks that do high volumes. Just depends where the dealer is.

Discounts tend to be July through Sept. I have taken advantage of this from time to time. This truck was one of the few I bought not in August.

Note the fleet order guide will be up in May with the 2018 trucks. Do not expect much in changed other than a couple colors and more wide spread options like wireless charging.

I'm not concerned with when the 2018s arrive. I'm more interested in finding out what changes there will be on the 2018s. Does anyone have an idea when that might be?

Figure June, might be May.

I am more concerned with the 2020s. By then, I can compare to Rangers, Jeep, Frontier, and maybe even a Taco. Expect the Ranger and the Twins to be the oly competitors for my $$$.

I work in sales at a Chevy/Cadillac dealership. Why wait "until Fall" to go buy one? There are hardly ever any rebates or incentives on the Colorados other than an occasional Conquest or bonus tag. Also, no dealership is going to be desperate to hurry up and get rid of the '17's to "make room for the '18's" so don't sit and wait and count on that because we can hardly get the Colorados now as it is. It's a demand vs. supply kind of thing. I'm in the Northeast Region for GM rebates and incentives and since these new Colorados came out in 2015, there has been very little rebate, incentives, or discount on them at all. If anything, the price is only going to go up on the 18's compared to the 17's with price increase, upgrades in technology and safety equipment, etc. and so on. Go get you one now while you can before they completely disappear. I know our dealership has only had like maybe 4 Colorados on our lot at one time at the most, the rest of the times it has been onesies and twosies.

Hyper v6, Don't look for that 2018 soon, My Denali is still sitting in their parking lot waiting for a rail car, seems shipping is backed up for weeks ( mine has sat over two weeks) and no immediate suggestion when mine will move. :(

Reminds me of the original release back in 2014, shipping issues kept many of the trucks out of driveways and off the dealer lots.

2018's will not likely start showing up until August. Possibly some in late July (rare). Pricing should be up online before or about that same time.

"Build Out" of the current model year usually occurs in mid to late June. For several months before that, "Pilot Runs" of the next model year [2018] will occur in various block sizes of 15, 30, to maybe 40 or 50 trucks. These Pilot Runs are not for sale units generally, but are used to check last minute part fitment and verify any new model changes. They may show up as company or engineering vehicles at times.
There is usually a one or two week shut down in early July before 2018s will start production. The length of shut down depends on what is planned for the next model year as well as updating or doing annual maintenance/repairs in various sections of the assembly plant from welding to the paint shop and the assembly line. Also, final job layouts are finalized for each assembly process along the line.
Then, when new model year production commences, it is usually at a slower pace as production issues arise and tweaks need to be made. The first week is usually very slow with only 30% to 50% of production scheduled and at a slower line rate. It all depends how many changes have been made, how extensive they are and what challenges may show up.
Also, new production vehicles would be lot queens for awhile till shipping quantity can build up as well as previous inventory (2017) is finished shipping out to clear the lot for the 2018's.
I would watch the Laura dealership online for new 2018 Canyons as a clue to when they might start to appear. They are a high volume dealer and also not far from Wentzville.

The Terrain is a new model. It has little bearing on the Canyon.

We will not see any engine changes, you may see the Diesel at some point get a 8 speed?

I. Would only expect color changes and some option group changes, ten some special editions mostly color and trim.

Since 2017 was a short year you will little in changes. Also with the ZR2 and Denali coming late Pitts e will change.

GM is doing more to invest in increasing production. Most dealers have few models after two strong months and it is hurting sales with little inventory.

Thanks! but that wasn't exactly what I was trying to ask. I know what everyone is expecting in the way of changes, (not much), but what I'm trying to find out is where can I go online and find out exactly what changed, and when.

Looking at the fleetorderguide site, it appears to be an ordering guide/list which will tell me all options, and paint colors, but if they decide to do a small change to the grille's shape, color, or chrome, for example, I don't see how this website would tell you. So I guess I'll just have to wait till pics are out.

Well I am still practicing "patience. All in good time" (thanks Cary) the truck is in a rail car somewhere between here and Munchinkin Land. I believe it is expected in the first week of May so whomever is throwing wood in the engine boiler is not throwing very fast, or is this the train that stops to load and off load rail cars at every hamlet rather than speeding directly to my location.
Maybe by the time it arrives I will figure out how to post a photo. :gmc

There have been a couple mentions of an 8 speed with the diesel in 2018 - highly unlikely because the 8L45 used with V6 is not capable of withstanding the torque of the diesel - which would mean the 8L90 as used in the full size van. That would take some doing, I would be surprised to see an 8 speed auto with the diesel in the twins before the Ranger & Bronco come out. At that point, more likely to just jump to the 10 speed.

The 2.8 diesel's torque vibrations are not transmission friendly, as Chrysler found out with the 2005 Liberty CRD. By mid model year, there was a recall, to dial back the torque because it was destroying transmissions - the 5 speed auto transmission that was used without problem behind the 5.7l HEMI.

The fleet site should show the changes first in May.

They normally list the dropped options and colors and added options and colors.

Even some items will show dropped but re added with a slight change and new RPO code.

Generally the fleet site will how all he options regular retail and fleet. It is the most complete site.

Again I do not anticipate any physical changes in styling.

The Midnight edition will get a new color and will be called something else.

Looks like the Silverado in multiple flavors are loaded (1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, Fleet, HD, etc.), along with a couple of SUVs.

Maybe soon, but still not sure when they will be able to process orders.

Well shoot. My color, Brownstone, is gone. I don't know if that matters all that much to me, but was not a common color, I like it, so now it's maybe an oddity.
Given the opportunity to swap evenly, man I really like that Deepwoods Green. I had been whining all along that I wish they made the Colorado in a color I like and along came the ZR2 in a green I really like, now you can get a Z71 in that color. Plus they heated the outside mirrors and unsure if the black leather interior is a big deal to me or not, would have to see it. Well, I like my brownstone truck anyways. Maybe another year or two I can get a good trade in on it. The last truck I kept for 12 years, I guess I am in a position where I don't NEED to hang on to something that long any more.

Looks like the satin steel isn't much different that the silver color, maybe need to see it in person, and looks like other GM divisions will be coming out with it. The Kinetic Blue looks a lot better than the Blurple color it replaces. I also thought the 2 gray colors were too close together to offer both and the popular Cyber gray is the one getting the ax.

Putting the paint codes in an automotive color database is indicating that they are resurrecting & renaming previous colors. They may look similar to current colors, but they are definitely several shades different.
