First, let me start off by saying that GM got this truck 95% right. There's so much to like about it from the size, the looks, the performance, the economy, and fun driving aspect......but there are a few things driving me nuts!

1. Seat adjustment. I'm tall and need the seat as low as possible, but when I lower the seat to get my head out of the roof the front of the bottom seat cushion raises thus making it uncomfortable to the point of cutting off the circulation in my legs. This truck needs at least a 6-way seat adjustment....I don't even care if its manual....I need the ability to get the seat in a position where I'm comfortable.

2. I have four vehicles......the other three have the following features that I want on my truck.....even if they are an option I would like the ability to spec my truck the way I want it....
-Keyless entry.....I hate fishing for my keys when I get to the door.
-Push button start.....again its a key thing
-Homelink.....I don't like the stupid door opener hanging on the visor and I don't like the idea of modifying a $40K truck to install it.
-Real Daylight LED running lights....why on earth they turn on the headlights with the LED's in there blows my mind.
-I would like to have the option to delete the Sliding Rear Window (I have an SLT)...I don't use it....I don't like the way it looks, and its easy for a thief to pop it open.

Since I'm 70 years old I'm very safety conscience.....would like to have these features...

-All LED lights period!
-Turn signal lights in the mirrors.
-Blind Side Warning
-Front and Rear Bumper proximity sensors

There's nothing else in the market that I would replace my Canyon with at this time....while the Ridgeline has all the features I want....its really not a truck and its downright ugly. I did look seriously for a few weeks, but I decided NO!

I'm just hoping that GM reads these forums and understands what people really want and will pay for as opposed to putting it out there with a take it or leave it. A truck costing $40K should have this stuff at least as an option. I really had high hopes for the Danali......but 20" wheels, steps, coated bed and a little bit better leather while still not having the options noted above doesn't justify the $4K cost difference for me.....I really want what I want!

Please don't flame me too bad!!!!

No need to flame, a good honest opinion.

I might disagree with the push button start and keyless entry. I don't see a need for turn signals in the mirror. Proximity sensors not a big deal to me, nor do I have to have the LED lights, etc.

On the other hand, your seat comment & sliding rear window, dead on. Blind spot warning - having driven a loaner with it, this should be standard, right up there with the rear view camera.

And your sentiments on the Denali pretty much echo my comments from another thread.

Your review is good, thank you. However, I'm trading my 2016 in for a Denali. The Denali platform is exclusive to the top of the line in GM. It may not reach as high in the inaugural edition, but eventually GM will see what we want and hopefully add those options you listed.

At least my thought.

NOPE, you're just a hater. These trucks are perfect. They don't break, don't have issues, and don't need ANY improvements. ;) J/K. Sorry, but I had to go through that door you opened up wide.

Good little review. I know I love my truck just as much now as the day I drove it off the lot. I've never regretted buying my Colly for so much as a millisecond.

I agree with the rear sliding window, there should have been a delete option, especially since the WT doesn't have one. I had one in my 2002 Nissan Frontier and in the 14 years I owned it, I might have opened it 4 times and I could reach it from the drivers seat.

As for keyless entry, I'm glad I don't have it. Especially the push button start. Sure it is nice to have and use, but I keep my vehicles 10-15 years and I'm thinking that these electronic components will fail and not only do I not want to pay the high cost to replace, I don't want to be left stranded. I even worry about the power windows and locks since this is my first truck with such amenities in the 25+ years I've owned a truck.

I'd also had liked to get a color matched exterior (instead of chrome) with a leather interior, but no option for that either.

Now if GM would offer a lifetime warranty like Ram, I'd be all over that ;-)

I think my 2016 Colorado is pretty nearly perfect. I agree about the rear window, but I have the WT. Simpler is better, for me. A sliding window would just provide an opportunity for leaks, I think.

I haven't used the seat enough to notice any problem getting it adjusted, but I am not unusually tall (6'0").

I don't mind using a key, but I need to separate the remote transmitter from the key. I carry keys on a belt clip and the transmitter is awkward to carry there.

I was surprised to find the WT does not have an OnStar feature. I thought every GM vehicle had that. On the other hand, I like not having those buttons on the mirror. We have them on our Cruze and it's easy to accidently push one when adjusting the mirror.

I have a lifetime limited powertrain warranty. My dealer provides it at no extra charge. To keep it in force, you must retain all records to prove that the scheduled maintenance was done. I wonder how many people actually use this, because it only covers the original owner. I tend to keep vehicles a long time, but doubt I will be able to collect on this because of my age.

#8 ·
You have a 2016? I have a WT with the convenience and appearance pkg and have a 5 yr Onstar plan with some other trials added in... wifi hotspot and something else. I'll have to dig out my paperwork to see if those were options or included in the base truck.

I agree with you 100%. Those are all of the items I wish my 2015 had. The only comment I have different is that my 2015 SLT does not have a rear sliding window.

Did they make the rear sliding window standard later in 2015 or in 2016?

Otherwise we think alike...I am 69 1/2.

I just wish you could get the rear window defroster WITHOUT the sliding window.

Good looking truck. I can't wait to pick mine up on 12/26. Been waiting a long time to get one! I agree with most of your comments. One thing I was really hoping for was adaptive cruise control. I never realized how nice it was until we bought a Hyundai 4 years ago that has it. It really makes the morning commute SO much nicer, except I don't get to use it since it's on the wife's car! I mean, you can get this on a Kia Sorrento for goodness sake, but NOT a maxed out Canyon SLT! That's a shame IMO!

After driving cars with keyless entry and push button start for 11 years and over 300k miles I miss it very much. I was very disappointed the Canyon didn't offer it. Especially in 4wd models. I can't stand the sound of my keys and remote slapping against the steering column.

The theft reasons against it are a joke in my opinion.

Keyless entry...
-Push button start....more potential problems esp if truck is already running, you get in drive somewhere, shut it down. forgot you left your key elsewhere, it's not going to start again.
-Homelink.....i don't need it and most probably don't. make it optional
-Real Daylight LED running lights....they are real LED. why the low tech headlight DRL?
-Sliding Rear Window (I have an SLT)...if you didnt have it you would want it. i don't need it but don't care either way. no one is going to crawl thru the window

-All LED lights period! again old tech on new truck
-Turn signal lights in the mirrors. i wouldn't want it its annoying unless its on the outside edge like most to warn other drivers. not to remind me the blinker is on.
-Blind Side Warning... every vehicle should have that. i got to rely on it in another vehicle i had and is one feature i really miss. the blind spot mirror is a joke, if the mirror is adjusted right you don't need that little bsm and actually is a hindrance showing 2 lanes over. i don't need to look at the side of my truck in the mirror
-Front and Rear Bumper proximity sensors. ...has been an option and it actually annoying. experienced it in a buick loaner
-I can't stand the sound of my keys and remote slapping against the steering column. .... i keep the ignition key on fob and thats it. other keys go in the console or somewhere else...quiet as can be

When I ordered my '16 SLT, I actually contacted the factory to see if they could delete the sliding rear window. They said they could not.

#27 ·
I agree with the LED's. Also I would love a rear sliding window if it were power. I love to drive with the windows down and it totally reduces the noise inside. Other than a few things here and there like more options on the power seats, and a power moonroof, it's got just about everything. Like others said I guess they are going to pack the Denali and let it trickle down from there. That is a GREAT looking truck BTW.

I want keyless entry & remote start, but not the chrome on the mirrors & handles that is forced on you (to me, it looks like a j.c. whitney catalog hit it).
every truck that I owned that had a sliding rear window that I couldn't reach from the drivers seat, never got opened. but living in the N.E. I do want the rear defrost.
I do not want a push button ignition, this isn't a race car. going to be carrying keys anyways, might as well use them. my keys don't bang around useless I'm in a bumpy area.
why are there so few long beds around/available? all of the dealers in my area stock short beds. for a $300 more I would rather have a cclb than a ccsb. short money imo for another foot of bed.
I honestly don't need/want tires larger than 17".
I honestly would like an optional bench seat in the front of the crew cabs, to make it a 6 passenger.
I would like the cocoa/dune interior available w/o buying certain packages.
if you want navi, you gotta buy the 7-speaker Bose system. why do I need upgraded speakers, amp & sub?

Here is the problem when it comes to many of these complaints. Yes they may be small but they do add up to more cost in a vehicle that is hemmed in on price.

This is how tight it is on pricing a vehicle here. Not only is the mid size truck hemmed in by the full size as it much remain below their price but they also have to account for rebated on the full size that hurt mid size sales to an extent.

But here is an example of how tight pricing can be. When the Camaro was coming back in the 5th gen a panel of Camaro owners were brought in to learn what they expected and what was important to them in the new car.

They got all the basic questions but then it came to the little things and how much would add to the cost and is it that important over other things you may have to give up.

One important one was the smell of leather seats. Yes the smell of leather is put into the seats that is why a Rolls Royce has a nice leather smell and why your Denali has none. It cost extra money and add to cost.

The key is there are compromises that have to be made to keep in a price range and while GM may have been able to add some of these items it would have to come out in some other area of the truck.

Hondas took the Unibody way out and use a driveline shared with a CUV. This saves them money that lets them put in other small items. But you also give up the body on frame that is important to many buyers and it also leaves you with a FWD based vehicle that leaves many truck buyers cold. They are targeting CUV buyers just as GM but they took the CUV like vehicle route where GM focused more on the Truck buyer first and CUV buyer second.

There are two district groups out there and while both appear to be in the same segment they are coming from two different directions at the customer.

Also you have to realize people start to balk at paying $40K or more for this truck unless it really has something more to offer. I waited to get my Denali below that mark.

Building and pricing a Cadillac is so much easier to do than to build and sell any Chevy as they rely on volume vs. Cadillac relying on higher average transaction price.

There is no right or wrong here but when wishing one much consider what they may have to give up for a hand full of small features. Cuts would have to come to prevent the higher prices.

I can totally relate.... although, I wish this thing was fully loaded to the gills....I'm pretty spoiled by it. It's got more creature comforts than I've ever had ever. It's got a couple features that my husband doesn't - in his fully loaded Infinity SUV. So, neener... neener. Lol

It's only a matter of time.....

How far we've come since rollup windows, no seat-belts, and floor button high beam switch! Lol

Again the packages we have are to make the packages cheaper.

Limited option groups make it so they are easier to build and easier to make money on when in a box.

I knew the man in charge of the Camaro. He was asked one time in one of BS times at an event. He was asked why they would not offer crank windows. He said it would cost more to offer them than to make them all power. The limited sales and extras stock and tooling plus engineering would make it more expensive than to just make power standard. Same on till wheels that is why so much is standard anymore on many things.

If you note much of these trucks are the same it is the little detail package things that set them apart.

But even then you get like a ZR2 and Denali little is optional as to make money on these models they have to load them up with options and that also offers the appeal of the unit as you can get things the others do not offer. Over time some of their options will trickle down to the other models but they will gain new options only to their brand.

I am not splitting hairs here but the automakers are when it comes to making money and keep the price in a range they intend.

Also timing of new models and updates also play into this. I expect some major updates by 2019-20 for this model but till then it will be small changes. Next year the phone charger I expect to be made optional on the LT and SLT and Z71/SLE.

Yep. I wear a 12 and depending on what shoe it rubs the side. It's similar in my old ford, the carpet is worn to show it. At least our trucks have a rubber pad there to prevent wear. It's nothing I can't (and already have) gotten used to.

And away we go, you are kidding right? It was fun while the 2nd gen twins were new. And watch the things people say next. Your foot is to big for the truck? The girls must love you long time. How come GM didn't put that side to side gas pedal adjustment in these trucks? Got to love it. :rofl

Turbo guy, And heated steering wheel ! My Denali ( if it ever leaves the Wentzville parking lot) would be enjoyed more if it had a power slider, love the slider but manual is inconvenient for the driver to operate, also where is the Home Link garage door opener? Glad they put a little cubby hole in the dash that my opener slips right into.
Yes, there are 'goo gaas' that I would like too see on the truck but my 2015 is a great truck all inclusive that i keep wondeing if ordering a new one was the best idea I have come up with this year. Actually I know the Denali will be just as nice and hopefully even better than the SLT as far as a total lack of complaints or repairs ( other than minor recalls), did I say these are great trucks?

Some comments of mine and wife after about 3 month's ownership. Probably a lot like earlier comments on our 2017 Colorado LT 3.6L w/8 speed transmission.
I am coming from a 2010 Colorado LT2 CCSB 3.7L I5 bought new and owned for 7 years, and before that a 2005 Colorado LS CCSB I4 driven for 5 years.

The leather 4-way power/heated seats are just ok. The 2010 Colorado LT2 had leather 6-way heated power seats that were much move comfortable and adjustable. We miss them. GM should match these in the Gen II Twins.

The door panel storage is deplorable and nearly useless with all the shallow, odd shaped swoopy, curved sections that are are only usable for small items. Our "old" 2015 Equinox has more and better door and console storage than this 2017 Colorado. There is even a passenger side console side pocket which can hold maps as well as the deep door pockets on the Equinox.

The only place to store road maps is the glove box and center console. So you have to dig around layers of things to find what you need. In our Equinox, we have local maps, store brochures, etc in one set of storage pockets, out of state in another where we travel regularly, and upstate things in a 3rd map pocket all neatly in place and ready for use. - - - Sadly, the 2017 Colorado can not compare. Yeah . .. we know, use a GPS instead of maps. We do use a newer Garmin, but maps are still useful. We have travel brochures and local attraction brochures as well. . . I guess this is GMs way of forcing and Onstar "Travel Guide" subscription.

So far, the engine and drive train are very good, but I say this seriously, the 3.7L V6 in the 2010 Colorado LT2 was plenty at 242HP and had plenty of passing power even when cruising at 65 MPH or more. It surprised the heck out of us for a humble I-5 power plant. That said, the 3.6L LGZ V6 and 8 speed transmission is nice and smooth. I only have 800 miles or so on it so haven't "nailed" it really . .. just a few half-way on ramp and passing accelerations. It is smooth and powerful. Don't see or really care for the "V4" cylinder mode it goes into at low speeds or coasting. I can tell now when it slips into the mode. . there is a very slight drop in engine power almost like I lightly tapped the brake and quickly let off.

MyLink. . . Works mostly ok. Again, comparing it to our 2015 Equinox with MyLink the Equinox system is better and more intuitive I think. I hate that the 2017 Colorado opens to the Home screen and Icons rather than the last radio station or other screen it was on when starting. It seems it will return to "Last Screen" but only if using the Remote Start key fob to start the truck or if I was playing USB media previously, but not for FM or XM Radio. We miss the XM Radio Supplied 5 Day and Local Weather, Local Gas Prices, & Local Movie Shows/Times we have on our Equinox. That is a quick and easy to use feature. Also, there do not seem to be many apps in the MyLink "Store". Wondering also how long GM will be updating and/or supplying apps for this version of MyLink. Will it just fall into being obsolete after 3 or 4 years? That is my guess since the "Latest MyLink" will be out in new models.

I know these are mostly small complaints, but enough to cause us to focus on them rather than the truck's admirable features.

The body design, paint, fit and finish seem superior to the old Gen 1 Colorado compared to the 2010. The ride is quiet and smooth. It seems like a bigger truck inside then our previous two Colorados. It feels almost like a full sized truck at times but more nimble. Maybe, because in reality if you check 90's and earlier truck sizes this Colorado is nearly the size of an old F-150 or GMC Sierra. I pull up next to some of those at traffic lights and, golly, the Colorado sits as high or higher, and is about the same length.

What else? I like the deeper pickup bed and spray on liner. I went with a Bullet liner for $350 and also bought an ARE truck cap. Nice combination. Never had a spray on bed liner before and is well worth it.
We also like the fold down rear seats and under seat storage area in the Crew Cab. Should I store our maps back there? lol

About all for now. Maybe edit this later.
